This Corvette-powered 1956 Chevrolet Cameo Carrier restomod has an LT1 350ci V8 powerplant mated to a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. Custom elements include a chopped cab, a louvered hood, a color-matched tonneau cover, an air conditioning system, and polished aluminum American Racing wheels. Finished in red over a gray vinyl interior with a center console, this Cameo is now offered with documentation, a remote key fob, and a clear Texas title in the seller’s name.
Building on the Advance Design series of pickups, Chevrolet rolled out the Task Force generation on the A-body platform beginning in 1955. The high-end Cameo Carrier variant at the top end of the hierarchy was produced for four years, with the 1955 and 1956 model years equipped with an egg-crate grille. This Cameo from 1956 is one of fewer than 1,500 produced and was refinished in red as part of the customization process. It features updates including a louvered hood, sport mirror caps, a chopped top, shaved door handles, chrome bedside trim, and a locking color-matched tonneau cover over replacement oak bed planks.
Polished aluminum five-spoke American Racing wheels are wrapped in new Goodyear tires.
The custom cab is fitted with gray vinyl bucket seats and a matching center console, upholstered door panels, carpeting, and floor mats. Amenities include a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, air conditioning, keyless remote entry, power windows, cup holders, and a Pioneer AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo.
The Retro-look modern instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The digital odometer reads 497.5 miles, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The Corvette-sourced 350ci LT1 V8 is cooled by an electric fan and uses an American Autowire harness. Recent maintenance includes the replacement of the air conditioning compressor and the fuel pressure regulator. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission.
The front suspension uses Chevrolet Camaro architecture and the body rides on air shocks. Driving is assisted by power steering and power brakes, with discs at the front and drums at the rear.
The sale includes manuals, build documentation, and a keyless entry fob.
