This 1970 Volkswagen Beetle is finished in red over a black cloth interior and is powered by an air-cooled 1,600cc flat-4 air-cooled engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. In 1970, Volkswagen enlarged the 1,500cc engine to 1,600cc, specifically for the North American market. The car was the recipient of restoration under prior ownership, which included an engine rebuild, and new upholstery. This Beetle is now offered on a clean California title in the seller’s name.
The exterior was refinished in red during its partial restoration, which was performed prior to the seller's acquisition. Exterior features include chrome bumpers front and rear, as well as chrome exterior mirrors and decorative trim along the body sides.
Factory 15” steel wheels are equipped with chrome hubcaps and are mounted to tires that measure 185-60/15 on all four corners. The vehicle is also equipped with a spare tire mounted in the cargo compartment.
The interior features front bucket seats, and both the front and rear seats were reupholstered in black vinyl with velour inserts. Aftermarket rubber floor mats and seat belts have been added by the seller. Chrome handles for the manual crank windows are equipped along with vinyl storage pockets below the armrests. The factory radio was upgraded with a JVC CD head unit that includes Bluetooth connectivity.
Instrumentation is set behind a 3-spoke, leather-wrapped wheel and includes a 100-mph speedometer, fuel gauge, and odometer, which reads 74k miles, 10k miles of which have been added by the seller. A center console with cupholders is mounted between the bucket seats and houses the manual shifter and black vinyl shift boot.
The rear-mounted, dual-port 1,600cc engine is the original to the car and was rebuilt 10k miles ago by Johnson West Motors in Lemoore, CA. It features a single carburetor, Bosche ignition coil, and chrome air cleaner. A new clutch for the 4-speed transmission was installed at that time. Records are included for routine maintenance only.
