This 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS coupe with T-tops being sold on behalf of its owner is reportedly a nearly $50,000 build carried out by Motor Worx of Danvers, Massachusetts. It is powered by an aftermarket GM Performance Parts 427ci V8 paired with a Turbo 400 3-speed automatic transmission that was installed along with a new torque converter, driveshaft, set of headers, front brakes, exhaust, carburetor, suspension components, and other parts in November of 2020. It comes finished in new black paint over its original gray cloth interior and features a set of 20-inch American Racing wheels and low-profile Nitto tires. Available now, this customized G-body comes with covers for its T-tops, invoices, build documentation, a dynamometer printout, a Carfax report, and a clear title.
1988 was the final year of the fourth-generation Monte Carlo and the end of the Monte Carlo using a rear-wheel drive layout. This particular SS features T-tops and new black paint that covers its body and matching grille, front and rear bumpers, door handles, top, and rear spoiler. Other features include quad square headlights, fender flares, dual exhaust outlets that exit behind the rear wheels, and vertical taillights with integrated reverse lights.
The car rolls on a set of 20-inch American Racing five-spoke wheels wrapped in staggered-width Nitto tires that measure 245/35ZR20 in the front and 275/30ZR20 in the rear.
According to the person selling this car for its owner, the gray cloth interior is original to the vehicle and comes with front bucket seats separated by a center console and a rear bench seat. Other features include black rubber floor mats; power steering, locks, and windows; a two-spoke steering wheel; a console-mounted shift lever; and a glove compartment. The seller notes the cabin does not have air conditioning.
The Dakota Digital instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, battery voltage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The seller reports there are 126K miles on the odometer, but only 300 miles on the new drivetrain and suspension.
Originally equipped with a high-output 305ci V8, this Monte Carlo SS now has a ZZ427/430 427ci V8 from GM Performance Parts paired with an aluminum radiator with dual fans, Doug's headers, a Holley carburetor, and a custom three-inch exhaust system. A Dynojet Research printout shows the engine produces 412 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels. The engine routes its power through a $1,600 Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission, a $2,900 nine-inch rear end, and the rear wheels. Other new parts on the car include a $3,948 full suspension kit from UMI Performance, the driveshaft, $830 front Wilwood brakes, and a billet power steering kit.
The Carfax report contains a Damage Report entry dated May of 2020 that involved contact with another vehicle that did minor damage to the right side of the body. Covers for the T-tops, invoices, build documentation, and a dynamometer printout are included with the sale of the car.

@Derekthechevyguy – The build started with a 73 Camaro, but the frame and body was too far gone to build, and the parts were used to build this Monte. The owner moved out of the country and it cost too much to export for him. the build was just finished and painted 4 weeks ago. The interior was next, but he ran out of time. The interior is original at this point. The suspension is completely redone with coil overs and disc brakes all around. The car is solid to run and is turn key. Less than 300 miles on the build with over $55,000 invested. He wanted $30,000 back, but the reserve is set at $25,000. It is a great deal for the next owner. This car sticks to the road and is VERY FAST! ...
Thanks for explanation! That helps explain things.
@ppalko – So there are big dollar invoices that show work was done on a 73 Camaro? Why? The car reads like all new power train installed, new paint but nothing done to interior? Seems strange to spend so much money on the car but not replace stained and torn carpet or freshen up interior? Is there a reason? What issues are there with the car that need to be addressed for it to be a reliable daily driver? Anything? ...
