Vehicle Story

This 1979 Jeep CJ-5 has reportedly received more than $40,000 in professionally installed upgrades, including an aftermarket Chevrolet 4.8-liter V8 with custom-built headers, new wiring, a new electrical harness, and a rebuilt transfer case and front and rear differentials.  Finished in red with blue stripes and graphics, tan Bestop removable doors, and a matching soft top over a tan cloth interior, it comes equipped with an aftermarket front bumper, fender flares, a locking center console, and a set of 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires. Available now, this modified Jeep off-roader comes with receipts and a clear title in the seller's name.

The red steel body is accented with blue stripes and "RENEGADE" decals on the hood and additional blue stripes on the lower body sides. Features include an aftermarket mesh cover for the Jeep signature seven-slot grille, a drilled bar-style front bumper, black fender flares, and chrome rear bumperettes.  According to the seller, the tan removable doors and soft top with plastic rear window were put on and used for approximately three months after the vehicle was purchased in 2013 and were then put into storage, where they have remained since then.

A set of aluminum wheels and 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires with approximately 4K miles on them connect this Jeep to the road and trails.

The cabin is furnished with tan carpeting, tan front bucket seats with shoulder belts, a gray rear bench seat with lap belts, a tan and body-color dashboard, and a tan padded roll bar. Aftermarket equipment includes the floor mats, a locking center console, a three-spoke Grant GT steering wheel, and an Alpine audio head unit.

The centrally mounted instrumentation consists of a 90-mph speedometer with integrated coolant temperature and fuel level gauges, and readouts for the voltage and oil pressure. Additional auxiliary gauges, including an 8k-rpm tachometer, are mounted below.

In 2016, the original 304ci V8 engine was replaced with a fuel-injected Chevrolet 4.8-liter V8 with approximately 35K miles on it, which is connected to an aftermarket intake, custom-built headers and exhaust hardware, and a Borg-Warner T150 3-speed manual transmission. Since installation, the engine has accrued an additional 3K miles.

Since the vehicle was purchased, the wheel bearings, brake hoses, and master cylinder have been replaced. The transfer case and front and rear differentials have also been rebuilt. Additional photos of the underbody are in the picture carousel to the right.

The sale of the vehicle includes receipts associated with its replacement parts, and a walk-around video is available below.

@Mac51 – Hello what is a 4.8 lit. V-8 and where did it come from. Compound low? Or just 3 speed -no winch? Thanks ...

Hello, The 4.8L V8 that it has is a fuel-injected chevy small-block 350 . The specific model of the engine is 4.8L LQ4, which is an LS-based truck engine. The motor came out of an early 2000's light duty GM commercial truck that was totaled following a rear-end collision. The motor had approximately 35K miles on it when it was purchased and installed in the jeep. It currently has the stock T150 three-speed manual transmission that it came with from the factory. Correct, the jeep does not have a winch. I appreciate your interest in the jeep and please let me know if you have any other questions.
