Vehicle Story

This 1969 Buick GS 400 coupe was built in GM's Fremont, California plant and originally delivered to Boulevard Buick in Long Beach, California. In approximately 2013, it was put through a restoration process that involved the exterior being repainted, the interior being refurbished, and the 400ci V8 engine and TH400 3-speed automatic transmission being rebuilt. Features include Ram Air, a tilt steering column, air conditioning, and a Pioneer stereo. Finished in Crystal Blue with a dark blue vinyl top over a light blue interior, this restored Buick A-body is available now and comes with its Protect-O-Plate, a window sticker, factory manuals and documents, service records, restoration process photos, and a clear California title.

As its tag indicates, this GS was originally configured with a Twilight Blue (51) body with a Crystal Blue (53) roof. During the restoration process carried out under previous ownership, the body was repainted Crystal Blue and topped with a dark blue vinyl roof. Features include chrome bumpers and trim, quad headlights, GS badges, a Ram Air hood, and dual exhaust outlets. A small crack in the paint near one of the Ram Air grilles is shown in the photo gallery to the right.

A set of 14-inch Buick Rallye wheels with Buick-branded center caps and Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires connect the car with the road. The trunk contains a floor liner and a spare wheel surrounded by a Remington tire.

The overhauled cabin is furnished with dark blue carpeting, a matching dashboard and center console, light blue vinyl front bucket and rear bench seating, and color-matched door panels. It comes equipped with air conditioning, power steering and brakes, remote control side mirrors, front headrests, a tilt steering column, and an aftermarket Pioneer head unit installed under previous ownership. There is a tear in the headliner near the rearview mirror and the headliner is separating from the rear pillar covering on both sides of the interior.

Behind the three-spoke Rallye steering wheel is a 120-mph speedometer, a clock, and a fuel gauge. The five-digit odometer currently shows a reading of less than 89K miles, and this is reported to be accurate.

Under previous ownership, the 400ci V8 was rebuilt. It also received a cooling system flush, an oil change, and a new AC compressor and receiver/drier. In addition, the driveshaft was re-balanced, the differential fluid and differential cover gasket were replaced, and a new transmission pan gasket and filter were installed. The Quadrajet carburetor was reportedly rebuilt in May of 2020. Power is sent to the road through a rebuilt THM400 3-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt Positraction rear end. Videos below show the car starting up and being driven.

Braking is handled by power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drums. As shown on the window sticker, this car came from the factory equipped with the Rallye Ride Control package (F41), which included a front stabilizer bar and firmer shocks and springs.

The Protect-O-Plate, a window sticker, factory manuals and documents, service records, and restoration process photos are included with the sale of the vehicle. A driving video is available for viewing below.
