This 1957 Dodge Coronet Super D-500 two-door is described as a 57,325-original-mile coupe powered by a numbers-matching, rebuilt 5.2-liter 325ci HEMI V8 coupled with a push-button 3-speed automatic transmission. This Coronet is reported to be one of only 399 units produced for the year with a D-500-1 “Super D” performance-tuned drivetrain, delivering power of 310 hp and gaining traction by way of a limited-slip differential. This Coronet was held in storage for two decades by its original family before being sold and later undergoing a repaint, receiving NOS interior and exterior trim components at the time. Finished in two-tone turquoise and white over a black and gold cloth interior, this fourth-generation Coronet is now offered with uninstalled wheel skirts and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The Coronet was first introduced as a full-size car in the Dodge model lineup in 1949, later receiving cosmetic updates for a second and third generation before taking its place at the lower end of the vehicle lineup beginning in 1955. A special D-500 trim level debuted offering distinct suspension architecture and drivetrain optioning, and this 1957 Coronet is presented by the seller as one of 399 Super D D-500-1 units. This Coronet has largely-original, rust-free body having resided long-term in California. The exterior was repainted in the original scheme of two-tone turquoise and white (MLM). Select components were replaced at the time of the repaint including the taillights and badging. The body is characterized by quad headlamps, vertically-aligned circular taillights, angular tailfins, and dual chrome exhaust outlets. The seller adds that a pair of uninstalled wheel skirts will be included with the sale.
Steel 15” wheels with polished caps are wrapped in Coker wide whitewall tires. The D-501 came with upgraded suspension when compared to traditional models, offering stiffer front coil springs and heavy-duty shock absorbers, and ride height was lowered from other Coronet models by about 1.5”. The brakes on this Coronet have been replaced, and the seller clarifies that the wire wheels pictures in some photos of the carousel are not included with the sale.
The interior was recovered with NOS black and gold cloth bench upholstery, receiving replacement kick panels and headliner at the time of refurbishment. Amenities include an AM radio, a heater, and wing windows. The seller notes that there is some cracking in the vinyl at the top of the back seat.
Instrumentation is presented by a ribbon-style 120-mph speedometer along with supporting gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 57,325 miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The numbers-matching rebuilt 325ci D-500-1 5.2-liter HEMI V8 is fed by factory dual-quad carburetors and was rated at 310 horsepower. This special powertrain utilized a unique camshaft, valve lifters, pushrods, and pistons. Maintenance on this Coronet has included replacement parts for the air cleaner, hoses, and belts under current ownership, and power is fed to the rear wheels via a dash-controlled push-button 3-speed automatic transmission and a limited slip differential.
Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.
The sale includes a pair of uninstalled rear wheel skirts.
AUTOHUNTER ADMIN UPDATE 1/20/22 9:17 AM: Please note that the listing has been edited to reflect that the vehicle is equipped with a 3-speed automatic transmission.

@colorado56 – The Dodge D-500 series has serial numbers starting with KD-501-1001 up to -1102. The serial number of 35231276 indicates a standard Coronet V-8 which was manufactured in Detroit. Also, the high performance D-500 engines required the three speed automatic TorqueFlite automatic transmission, not the two speed PowerFlite automatic transmission. Could the seller please comment on these two apparent discrepancies in determining an original "numbers-matching rebuilt 325ci D-500-1 5.2-liter HEMI V8"? Thank you. ...
Just looking at the photos, they clearly show that this car has a pushbutton torqueflite 3 speed transmission which is correct to this car putting aside what the description says. There are some mistakes in the description, but photos are without a doubt saying what this car is. [I would exclude the Porsche keys from the photos of course :)] Moreover, there is also a photo that shows KD500-I2809 stamping, again that is the exact stamping one would expect to see at that exact spot. VIN/serial numbers never started with KD500 designation. 35231276 VIN/serial number is also correct as first digit shows that this was a Detroit built car. Detroit numbers ran from 35172001 to 35303713, while CA production ran from 42620001 to 42631610. So, this is a Detroit built car for sure. From 1946 through 1957, all Dodge cars built in Detroit had a serial number starting in "3" while all California cars started with "4". And that is as far as you can "decode" the old serial numbers. They are just numbers, with the first 1957 Coronet V8 off the line given the number 35172001. Each car after that is given a number one higher than the previous, with the last 1957 Dodge Coronet V8 built in Detroit given the number 35303713. In my humble opinion, this is not only a true and true D500 but also it appears to be 100% bone stock, I have never seen one this authentic, usually the mufflers and air cleaners are the first things that were replaced or lost in these cars. My God, what a beauty this is, look at the mufflers, air cleaners, interior, totally stock I think I have to agree with the seller that this is a very rare car.
