This 1966 Chrysler Newport is a garage-kept two-door hardtop that has been in the same family since new. It retains its original paint and upholstery and is powered by a 383ci V8 paired with a TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission. Features include front and rear bench seats, a column-mounted shifter, and manual crank windows. Finished in light blue over a two-tone blue interior, this Newport is now offered with the original order sheet and window sticker, the Vehicle Certicard, an owner's manual, service records, uninstalled parts and factory wheels, and a clear New Mexico title in the seller’s name.
Chrysler introduced a new generation of the Newport based on the C platform for the 1965 model year. This 1966 Newport has been with the same family since November 10th, 1965, when it was purchased by the seller’s father. It comes finished in light blue and features rear fender skirts and brightwork accents in the form of chrome bumpers, window surrounds, and chrome side mirror caps. According to the seller, there are visible signs of fading paint, nicks, scratches, chips, minor rust, a bent antenna, and a dent in the hood. There is 25-year-old rust on the driver's door, although it is reportedly not progressing. An accident many years ago to the rear end resulted in a dent to the bumper and a 50-cent-sized dent above the license plate with subsequent corrosion. The bumper was removed, repaired, and re-chromed, and the trunk lid was repainted in the late 1960s. Per the seller, the bumper was removed and re-chromed again in the late 1980s due to some cracking caused by over-tightened bolts.
Fourteen-inch wheels with bright hub caps are fitted with Mastercraft whitewall tires.
The original interior shows wear and tear and features dark blue carpeting, a light blue dashboard, and two-tone blue vinyl bench seats with cloth inserts, a color scheme carried through to the door panels. Equipment includes manual crank windows, a Chrysler-branded radio, lap belts, and a glove compartment.
Instrumentation includes a gear selection indicator, a 120-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level and voltage. The odometer reads 89,924 miles.
Power comes from a 383ci V8 paired with a column-shifted TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission. In the last year, the seller reports replacing the bottom hose, radiator cap, water pump, and thermostat. Since the air conditioning compressor needed to be moved in order to replace the thermostat, the system will need to be charged.
The original order sheet and window sticker, the Vehicle Certicard, an owner's manual, service records, and uninstalled parts and factory wheels are included with the purchase of the car. Starting and idling videos are available for viewing below.
