This 1980 MG MGB Limited Edition roadster is from the MGB's final model year and features LE package-specific silver stripes, special five-spoke wheels, and a luggage rack. It was previously owned by the same person for 16 years and comes with manual windows, an AM/FM radio, and a new heater core and heater switch. The 1.8-liter inline-four has been upgraded with a polished valve cover, an updated Weber carburetor, a PerTronix ignition system, and a new exhaust. Power is sent to the road through a 4-speed manual transmission and the rear wheels. Finished in black with a black folding top over a tan interior, this MGB is available now from a dealer with a clear title.
MG introduced the MGB for 1962 and by 1980, the last year of MGB production, it had made more 500,000 of them. It commemorated the end of the MGB's lifecycle by making more than 6,600 US-market Limited Edition models across the 1979 and 1980 model years. The Limited Edition came with specific design changes that are visible on this black car, such as the silver lower-body MG branding, Union Jack, and stripes and the trunk lid-mounted chrome luggage rack. Other features include black rubber front and rear five-mph bumpers, a black front air dam, and a black soft top with three plastic rear windows. Brightwork can be found on the body sides, windshield frame, side mirror housings, door handles, rear gas cap, and other areas.
As shown in the photo gallery, another part of the LE package is a set of two-tone five-spoke GKN wheels with MG center caps. A matching spare wheel is located in the unlined trunk.
The cabin is furnished with black carpeting, a pair of tan bucket seats divided by a black center console, a black dashboard, and tan door panels. Features include door sill tread plates, adjustable head restraints, an AM/FM radio, and a lockable glovebox. According to the selling dealer, the car also has a new heater core and heater switch.
Behind the three-spoke steering wheel is a bank of gauges that includes a 7K-rpm tachometer, an 85-mph speedometer, and gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and more. According to the selling dealer, there are 66K miles on the odometer, which they believe are original.
Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine topped with a polished valve cover and connected to an updated Weber carburetor, a new header and exhaust system, and a PerTronix ignition system and coil. A 4-speed manual gearbox delivers the engine's output to the road.
Additional photos of the car's undercarriage are available in the picture gallery.
