Vehicle Story

This 2005 Porsche Boxster S is a largely-stock performance roadster that has driven 64,412 miles since new and is powered by a 3.2-liter flat-6 paired with a 5-speed Tiptronic automatic transaxle. This Boxster was originally sold in Georgia and subsequently relocated to other locations on the east coast before transitioning to Illinois in August 2020 where it has resided since. Features include a Bose audio system, fog lamps, automatic climate control, and a power-operated retractable roof. Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with a black retractable top over a black leather interior, this second-generation 987 Boxster is now offered with a CARFAX report with a clear Illinois title in the seller’s name.

The original Boxster launched in 1996 as a mid-engine two-seater in Stuttgart, Germany. Nearly a decade later, for the 2005 model year, the second-generation Type 987 Boxster brought cosmetic changes such as larger side intake vents, reshaped wheel arches, and new lighting up front. This Boxster from that initial model year of the generation is painted Arctic Silver Metallic (X1) with a contrasting black cloth power-operated retractable roof, front and rear fog lamps, bi-xenon headlamps, and centrally-mounted dual rear exhaust outlets.

Silver-finished 18” five-spoke aluminum wheels with Porsche center crests are wrapped in tires with good tread remaining, and the front and rear struts were replaced in April 2021. Handling is assisted by speed-sensitive power steering and a traction control system, a four-wheel independent suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes with red-finished calipers.

The two-seat interior is fitted with heated black leather seats, color-matched to the door panels, dash, carpeting, and embroidered floor mats. Amenities include automatic climate control, power windows, power door locks, cruise control, and a Bose 7-speaker audio system with a 6-disc CD changer.

Instrumentation includes a dominant 8k-rpm tachometer, a 190-mph speedometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The digital odometer reads 64,412 miles, which is a true reading supported by the CARFAX report.

The rear mid-mounted 3.2-liter flat-6 was factory rated at 280 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque when new. The water pump, thermostat, cooling system, and exhaust system were serviced in 2009. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 5-speed Tiptronic automatic transaxle.

The CARFAX report shows a right-side impact when new in November 2005 that was classified as severe, but no additional information. The vehicle passed an Illinois emissions inspection in June 2021. According to Porsche VIN analytics, this vehicle carried an original MSRP of $60,545.
