Vehicle Story

This 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z is finished in red over a red vinyl interior with a black convertible top.  It is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission.  Equipment includes power convenience options, fog lamps, and an integrated, flush-mounted rear spoiler.  The car spent approximately its first 10 years in Illinois and subsequently was registered in New York and Pennsylvania before the seller acquired it and moved it to Iowa where it has been since early 2007.  This IROC-Z is now offered with a clean CARFAX report and a clean Iowa title in the seller’s name.

Finished in Bright Red , the IROC-Z retains its original paint. Black and white striping runs around the lower portion of the vehicle along with “IROC-Z” decals on both doors.  A new black convertible top was recently installed and supporting paperwork is included.  and the seller notes that there is a spot near the trunk lid where the paint is getting thin.

Factory 16” 5-spoke wheels are wrapped in Daytona HR tires and feature “IROC-Z” logos in the center caps. The braking system utilizes front power discs and the suspension features factory upgraded shocks and sways bars as part of the IROC-Z package

The interior is fitted with a 6-way power adjustable bucket seat on the drivers side with all seats being upholstered in red vinyl with tweed inserts.  Features include power windows, locks and mirrors as we;; as cruise control.  The car is equipped the original AM/FM radio with cassette deck and CD player, which is housed in the center console just below the climate controls.

Instrumentation includes a 115-mph speedometer, gauges for fuel, temperature, voltage, and a 7k-rpm tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline.  The five-digit odometer reads 42k miles, 9k of which have been added by the seller over ten years of ownership.

The 5.0-liter V8 is equipped with Tuned Port Injection and was rated at 195 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque from the factory.  Transferring the power to the rear is a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. The majority of the maintenance has been carried out by the seller with the most recent service including an oil change in April 2020.  The air conditioning system was converted to R134a freon and recharged in August 2014 at approximately 40k miles.

Additional photos showing the underside are provided in the gallery.

The sale includes an original sales brochure, receipts, and the owner’s manual.  The CARFAX report shows no accidents or damage but denotes that this Camaro was stolen when new in June 1989 in Illinois, but later recovered.  The car’s first registration on record was in March 1990 at 359 miles to the original owner.  The report also indicates that there is one outstanding recall on the seat belt buckles which dates to June 1990.
