This 1978 Porsche 928 2+2 grand touring hatchback has driven 72,240 miles since new and received recent attention to the fuel system, air conditioning, and fluids as part of a mechanical refresh. The M28 4.5-liter V8 is mated to a 5-speed manual transaxle and demonstrates good driving dynamics, with stopping power provided by four-wheel discs. Finished in Silver Metallic over a black and white two-tone patterned interior, this first-year 928 is now offered with a clear California title in the seller’s name.
Launched in 1978 as a grand tourer, the 928 two-door bears a hatchback-equipped galvanized steel body with aluminum doors, front fenders, and hood for weight optimization. This 928 from the initial year is painted Silver Metallic and has pop-up headlamps, fog lights, dual exhaust outlets, and color-matched polyurethane bumpers integrated both ends. Condition is described as good throughout, with the car having been garage-kept long-term as part of a collection, and is a prime candidate for a complete restoration.
Silver-finished 16” phone dial wheels with Porsche crest center caps are wrapped in 225/50-series tires with good tread remaining, and stopping power comes from four-wheel discs.
The 2+2 interior affords white and black striped bucket seats with cloth inserts and vinyl sides, complemented by black door panels, carpeting, and dashboard. The rear features a hatchback cargo area, and amenities include a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, power windows, power-adjustable mirrors, air conditioning, a factory AM/FM/cassette radio, and a rear-mounted lockable storage console. The seller has provided images of the interior showing age-related sagging of the headliner and seam separation on the driver-side seat.
Instrumentation includes a 170-mph speedometer, a 7,500-rpm tachometer, a console-mounted analog clock, and readouts for fuel level, voltage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 72,240 miles which is a true reading per the seller.
The front-mounted, water-cooled 4.5-liter M28 V8 features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 219 horsepower when new. Recent maintenance was carried out including replacement of the battery, a recharge of the air conditioning system, and an overhaul of the fuel system with a replacement filter, lines, sending unit, and pump. The engine oil, coolant, and other fluids were replenished as well. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted dog leg 5-speed manual transaxle.
The seller has provided two short video clips showing headlamp operation and one showing the car being driven.
Looks like a nice original early car @kfro222. I hope you bring it back to its glory. Be sure to get on Rennlist and read threads on early 928 restos.

@Cogswell1777 thanks. I'm on the East Coast so not going to happen in the next hour! I've got an identical silver 1980 version of this car that is nearly fully sorted. I should probably focus on that, but torn as to what would be involved with rescuing this one. Thanks for the comments.
