This 1998 Chevrolet Corvette convertible is 1 of 1,163 of its kind dressed in pace car livery from the 82nd Indianapolis 500 in May 1998 and has driven 3,881 miles since new. Power comes from a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 paired with a T56 6-speed manual transaxle and maintenance is up to date with a recent full inspection and ABS system service. This Corvette originated in Oklahoma where it resided in garage-kept collector ownership until relocating to Florida in late 2021. Finished in Pace Car Purple Metallic with yellow graphics over a yellow and black leather interior, this C5 Corvette is now offered by the selling dealer with a service manual, documentation, two scale models, an owner’s manual, embroidered black floor mats, a clean CARFAX report, and a clear Florida title in the selling dealer’s name.
The fifth generation of the Corvette sports car debuted for model year 1997 on the Y-body platform with a hydroformed box frame and modular body panels from sheet molded composite. This Corvette from the subsequent year was one of 1,163 in its configuration that were produced in Pace Car Purple Metallic with yellow livery from the May 1998 Indianapolis 500. The black cloth convertible top is power-operated and in like-new condition, and additional exterior equipment includes daytime running lamps, fog lamps, a windshield decal, power mirrors, and centrally-mounted quad exhaust outlets at the rear.
Staggered five-spoke aluminum wheels are finished in yellow and sized 17” up front and 18” in the rear, wrapped in Goodyear Eagle tires with good tread remaining. Handling is provided by a four-wheel independent suspension with braking supplied by four-wheel disc brakes. A traction control system came standard on this model as well.
The two-seat interior is fitted with power-adjustable sport bucket seats in two-tone black and yellow perforated leather, and with the rest of the cabin trimmed in black door panels, center console, dashboard, and carpeting. Amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, a Delco AM/FM/CD audio system, cruise control, intermittent wipers, a tilt-adjustable leather-wrapped steering wheel, power door locks, and power windows.
Instrumentation is presented by a 200-mph speedometer, a 7,500-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level. The digital odometer reads 3,881 miles, which is supported by the CARFAX report.
The fuel-injected 5.7-liter LS1 V8 had factory ratings of 345 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque when new. The CARFAX states that the ABS system was checked in November 2021 and the selling dealer states that a full inspection was performed at the time. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a console-shifted T56 6-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential.
The CARFAX report shows history free of accidents or damage, although there is an open manufacturer safety recall dated November 2000 regarding the lap belts. The sale includes a service manual, documentation, embroidered floor mats, an owner’s manual, and two scale models.
