This 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am two-door coupe received a fuel system refresh in late 2021 and is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. It remained with its prior owner for 20 years and features removable T-tops, a Ram Air hood, 17-inch polished wheels, and an aftermarket audio system. Finished in two-tone burgundy and silver over a burgundy cloth interior, this third-generation Firebird is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean Carfax report and a clear Maryland title.
The Firebird model shares F-body platform underpinnings with the Chevrolet Camaro. It entered its third generation beginning in the 1982 model year and was offered in coupe and convertible body styles. The body was redesigned to be more aerodynamic, featuring a frameless rear glass hatchback and a full-width taillight panel. In 1987, all Firebirds received a center high-mounted stoplight. This Firebird from that year has a rust-free body that wears its original burgundy paint finish with silver pinstripes and matching lower body panels. Features include a sculpted Ram Air hood, pop-up headlights, fog lamps, color-keyed side mirrors, removable T-tops, and a rear spoiler. The seller notes that exterior finishes are presentable but worn. Noteworthy flaws include a dent in the passenger-side door and faded paint, as shown in the photo carousel.
Polished 17-inch five-spoke wheels are wrapped in low-profile tires.
The four-seat interior is furnished with the original maroon cloth bucket seats, which are matched to the door panels and carpeting. The dash and center console are finished in black and dressed in a woodgrain veneer. Additional amenities include an aftermarket steering wheel and radio. As shown in the photo carousel, the upholstery shows wear and tear consistent with age.
Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, a 6K-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, voltage, and oil pressure. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 158K miles, which is supported by the Carfax report.
The port-injected 5.0-liter V8's fuel pump and gas tank were replaced in December 2021 and carry a warranty for three years or 36K miles, per the seller. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 4-speed automatic transmission. The suspension is lowered two inches on Eibach springs. Chassis rigidity is enhanced with a Hotchkis Performance strut tower brace. Braking comes from cross-drilled rotors with discs up front and drums in the rear. According to the seller, the exhaust either needs to be repaired or replaced with a cat-back system.
The Carfax report shows a history starting in November of 1990 free of accidents or damage. A video containing exterior, interior, and engine bay footage is below. The selling dealer charges a $299 documentation fee in addition to the winning bid.
