Vehicle Story

This 1985 Jaguar XJ-SC two-door is a European-market grand touring Targa-style convertible powered by a 3.6-liter AJ6 inline-6 paired with a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission. This XJ-SC shows 75,000 miles on the odometer and comes with amenities including burled elm trim, leather upholstery, a Pioneer radio, and power convenience options. Finished in Tudor White over a dark blue leather interior, this XJ-SC is now offered with a CARFAX report with a clear California title in the seller’s name.

The XJ-S model first debuted as a luxury grand tourer in 1975 as a derivative of the Jaguar XJ saloon platform. Updates were applied in 1981 to the available drivetrain and body configurations, and a convertible model later launched in 1983. As part of the convertible top engineering, the side profile used fixed rails and fixed rear quarter windows. This XJ-SC from 1985 is painted Tudor White (NDC) and has a contrasting manually-retractable blue cloth top. The straight, rust-free body is accented in a black chin spoiler, chrome bumpers with black rub strips, and chrome sideview mirror caps.

Mesh-style 15” silver-painted aluminum wheels with Jaguar center caps are wrapped in Cooper Cobra tires with good tread life remaining.

The two-seat interior is fitted with dark blue leather bucket seats, matched to the door panels, console, dash, and carpeting. Two Targa roof panels above the seats are removable and connect to a retracting cloth top. Additional amenities include a Pioneer AM/FM/cassette head unit, air conditioning, power windows, and burled elm woodgrain cabin trim.

Instrumentation is conveyed via a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and inset barrel-style readouts for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads approximately 75k miles, less than 1,000 of which have been added by the seller since acquiring the car in 2016. The CARFAX shows a reading in excess of 200,000 miles as of June 2020, but this is said to be a mistake.

The 3.6-liter AJ6 inline-6 sends power to the rear wheels via a console-shifted Getrag 265 5-speed manual transmission.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

The CARFAX report shows history free of accidents or damage, with reporting beginning in 1992, as well as the aforementioned odometer discrepancy.

@dare6626 – Shoot me an email, I can't wait to see the XJ6C when it's done. I just completed a 70 TR6 trying to sell it now. If the SC doesn't sell, let's talk Mike ...

will do. I will be selling my 74 TR6 soon too. Just finished that myself. Funny.

@AMM-PASHA – Hi, this must be Mike, I am the person who bought this car from you. Hope all is well. Yes, this has been such a great car and an incredibly rare one especially with 5spd. When I bought it from you, you said "you are going to love this car", you were 100% right on that. I really enjoyed this more than my 91 XJS convertible with V12 which only had8K miles, that was a great car too but this one is a totally different animal with inline 6 and 5spd (which was like butter, I must say) much much more agile and certainly a lot of fun to drive. I was really surprised how much power the inline 6 had and that engine never ever had any problems. I had no intention of selling but when I moved to a new storage facility that caused me to sell some of my cars. I sold most of my Jags already. I am sad about this one . I know I can never find one like this ever again. I think I also bought a 76 XJ6C from you. I still have that one. That one is almost being finished with total rotisserie restoration and a brand new LS3 under the hood. My email is the same and I will send you photos of that car when it is finished. Small World. Best. ...

@dare6626 – Hello, I owned this car in 2016 and sold it to a guy in CA. I purchased it from Pauls Jaguar in Ft Lauderdale. The car was fully restored by Paul, it was the best Jag I ever owned. It was very fast, very reliable and all around awesome car. I actually drive it from Ft Lauderdale to Montreal and spent the summer there and back with no issues. I wish I could buy it back! ...
