This 1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser two-door hardtop comes with a power-operated rear window and a dual exhaust system. Under the hood, the 368ci Y-block V8 has been paired with a push-button 3-speed Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission. Finished in two-tone red and white over a black and white interior with gold piping, this first-year Turnpike Cruiser is now offered by the selling dealer with uninstalled spare parts and a clear title.
Produced for only the 1957 and 1958 model years, the Turnpike Cruiser was available as a two-door hardtop, a four-door hardtop, and a convertible. This Turnpike Cruiser two-door hardtop from the initial model year wears a two-tone finish with a red top, a white body, and brightwork accents. The body features quad headlights, a hood ornament, dual side mirrors, Turnpike Cruiser badging, and dual exhausts.
Red wheels with polished hubcaps are wrapped in whitewall tires.
The interior is fitted with a power-operated rear window and black and white vinyl bench seating with gold piping, complemented by black carpeting, a two-tone dash, and matching door panels. The trunk contains a spare tire and jack.
Instrumentation is housed within an engine-turned bezel and includes a 120-mph ribbon-style speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 23K miles, which the seller believes to be 123K actual miles.
The 368ci Y-block V8 was rated at 290 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a push-button 3-speed Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission.
Handling is assisted by both power steering and power-assisted four-wheel drum brakes. The Turnpike Cruiser is based on an independent ball-joint front suspension and a leaf spring rear suspension. Additional photos showing the underside are available in the picture gallery to the right.
The car comes with uninstalled spare parts including a new speedometer cable. The selling dealer charges a $150 documentation fee.
