This 1965 Factory Five Type 65 Daytona two-door coupe is a replica designed to resemble the Shelby Daytona GT race car. It is powered by a machined 306ci V8 from Detroit Competition Engineering coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. Upgrades to this custom-built kit car include a Wilwood pedal box, a detachable wood-rimmed steering wheel, Sampson harnesses, and a roll cage. Finished in metallic blue with dual white stripes over a black vinyl interior, this Daytona is now offered by the selling dealer with build documentation from Factory Five, Lexan side window curtains, an assembly manual, and a clear Minnesota title which lists the car as a 1965 Daytona Replica.
Factory Five was founded in 1995 in Wareham, Massachusetts and today is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of component car kits. This Type 65 Daytona has a tubular frame and fiberglass body that was assembled as part of a custom build, receiving a metallic blue exterior finish with white racing stripe accents and a race-themed livery. Body features include fog lamps, plexiglass headlight domes, a sculpted air-intake hood, dual side mirrors, white-finished side-exit exhaust pipes, and a ducktail rear spoiler.
White-finished aluminum wheels with polished lips are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle tires.
The two-seat interior is fitted with black vinyl bucket racing seats accompanied by Sampson harnesses, a cockpit roll cage, a black dash, and aluminum floor panels. Additional features include a Wilwood pedal box, a removable wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a fire extinguisher. A battery shut-off switch and charging terminals are housed at the rear along with a spare tire and toolkit.
Instrumentation includes a reverse-sweep 180-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The selling dealer reports there are 460 miles on the odometer.
The machine 306ci V8 was sourced from Detroit Competition Engineering. Detailed engine specifications are included in documentation in the photo carousel. Highlights include aluminum 185-cc heads, performance valves and springs, Ford Motorsport roller lifters, Comp Cams stainless-steel roller rockers, hardened push rods, forged pistons, an aluminum radiator, an electric fuel pump, and performance headers. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.
Additional photos showing the underside are available in the carousel to the right.
The sale includes build documentation, Lexan side curtains, an assembly manual, and more. The selling dealer charges a $150 documentation fee in addition to the sale price of the vehicle.
