This 1955 Mercury Montclair two-door hardtop is a first-year model with a two-tone exterior accented with brightwork and wide whitewall tires. It has a previously restored interior with bench seats and a 292ci V8 coupled with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Finished in turquoise and white over a matching vinyl interior, this first-year Montclair is now available from a Minnesota dealership and comes with uninstalled spare parts and a clear title.
The Montclair full-size sedan went into production for the 1955 model year as the brand’s premium sedan above the Monterey and was offered in four-door sedan, two-door hardtop, and two-door convertible body styles. This Montclair two-door hardtop from that initial year is dressed in a two-tone combination of a turquoise roof and a white body. The stainless-steel trim appears to be original and shows imperfections in some areas. The body features a hood ornament, rear fender skirts, and a dual exhaust system.
Red wheels with full hubcaps are wrapped in wide-whitewall tires.
The interior is trimmed with two-tone turquoise and white vinyl upholstery for the front and rear bench seats and features matching colors for the headliner, dash, and door panels along with contrasting black carpeting in the footwells. The horn ring is in good condition, according to the seller. Amenities include a push-button radio, a clock, a vinyl trunk mat, and a spare tire.
Instrumentation consists of a sweeping 120-mph speedometer and gauges for the voltage, fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 94K miles, but true mileage is unknown.
The 292ci V8 was rated at 195 horsepower when new. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a column-shifted 3-speed automatic transmission.
Additional photos showing the underside of the car are available in the picture gallery to the right.
Uninstalled spare parts are included with the sale of the vehicle. The selling dealer charges a $150 documentation fee.
