Vehicle Story

This 1955 Studebaker President Speedster coupe is one of 2,215 produced and was previously owned by the same person for 30 years, according to the selling dealer. It comes dressed in two-tone paint and features chrome bumpers, fog lights, metallic trim, 15-inch wire wheels with whitewall tires, and dual exhaust outlets. The two-tone cabin is equipped with power steering, power brakes, quilted vinyl bench seating, machine-turned metallic dashboard trim, and a column-mounted automatic shifter. Power comes from an OHV 259ci "Passmaster" V8 that sends its output to the rear wheels through a 3-speed automatic transmission. Finished in Pimlico Grey Metallic and Coraltone over a Congo Ivory vinyl interior, this one-year-only Studebaker is available now from a California dealership and comes with factory literature, used car sales documentation from 1957, and a clear title.

The exterior is finished in the layered combination of a Coraltone roof, Pimlico Grey Metallic upper bodywork, and Coraltone lower sheet metal. The front end features a chrome bumper with rectangular turn signals and amber fog lights and a hood-length hood ornament with a gold-tone fin. The side rub rails have a "Speedster" nameplate and a checkered racing emblem. An ornamental chrome roll bar is located in front of the rear windscreen. "V8" and "Studebaker President" badges and dual reverse lights are fitted to the trunk lid. A pair of vertical exhaust outlets exit below the chrome rear bumper.

The car rolls on 15-inch wire wheels with chrome and gold-tone hub caps and a set of wide-whitewall tires.

Like the exterior, the interior is finished in a two-tone color scheme. The front and rear bench seats are covered in Congo Ivory quilted vinyl and the door panels have gray quilted cards as well as armrests and manual window cranks and door handles. Black carpeting and rubber mats cover the floor. The dashboard is painted to match the Pimlico Grey of the exterior and features a machine-turned fascia plate. Equipment includes power steering, power brakes, a two-tone steering wheel with a horn ring, a column-mounted automatic shift lever, a push-button radio, and an analog clock located on the passenger's side of the dashboard. The Coraltone trunk area is lined with a patterned mat and contains a spare tire with a matching cover.

Instrumentation consists of a gear selection indicator, a 160-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the amps, fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 26K miles, but true mileage is unknown.

When new, the OHV 259ci "Passmaster" V8 generated 185 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. A 3-speed automatic transmission transfers the engine's output to the rear wheels.

Factory literature and used car sales documentation from 1957 is included with the sale of the vehicle.
