Vehicle Story

This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III is an unmodified, rust-free two-door 2+2 roadster that received an inside-and-out refurbishment with a fresh coat of paint, a newer vinyl interior, and Michelin tires on wire wheels. Under the hood, its dual-carbureted 2.9-liter inline-6 is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and is said to run and drive well. Finished in Colorado Red over a black vinyl interior, this Mark III is now offered by the selling dealer with documentation, receipts, a vinyl convertible boot, and a clear Nebraska title.

The British-produced 3000 sportscar was first launched in 1959 with bodywork from Jensen Motors and a two-door convertible body layout. This Mark III from 1966 reportedly resided in Seattle long-term and has a rust-free body that was fully restored under prior ownership, inclusive of a repaint in Colorado Red (RD02). Accenting features include a black retractable top and brightwork for the bumpers with guards, window trim, badging, handles. The exterior features fog lamps, a fender-mounted sideview mirror, and dual chrome-finished exhaust tips out back.

Painted wire 15” wheels with knock-off caps are wrapped in Michelin XZX tires with good tread remaining. Braking is provided by discs up front and drums in the rear.

The 2+2 interior is fitted with black vinyl bucket seats, matched to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include a push-button radio, woodgrain trim for the dash and shift knob, and a spare tire with additional miscellaneous parts housed in the trunk.

Smiths-branded instrumentation is presented in a woodgrain bezel and consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 5,600 miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 2.9-liter inline-6 features dual SU carburetors and is described by the selling dealer as being mechanically sound. According to service documentation, service was performed recently to the heater hoses, cooling system, and handbrake. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

The sale includes a black vinyl convertible boot, build documentation, and receipts back to new.

Do you have more pictures of the back seats? Is that some type of metal trim around the seats that appear to be rusted? Thanks in advance for your reply! B. Stephens [email protected]
