Vehicle Story

This 1970 Pontiac GTO two-door convertible received a body-off restoration in 2016 encompassing a refinished exterior, new upholstery, and a drivetrain refurbishment. It is powered by a 400ci V8 paired with a Turbo Hydramatic 400 3-speed automatic transmission and comes equipped with air conditioning, power steering, and power front disc brakes. Finished in metallic gold with a tan retractable top over a tan vinyl interior, this second-generation GTO is now offered with restoration documentation, a vinyl convertible boot, and a clear South Carolina title in the seller’s name.

The GTO model shared A-body chassis underpinnings with other General Motors vehicles of its era. When the second generation rolled out in 1968, it had streamlined styling and a shorter wheelbase. For 1970, the GTO no longer had front vent windows and its hidden headlights were replaced with exposed round headlights along with narrowed grille openings. This 1970 GTO was repainted in metallic gold as part of a full 2016 restoration and has a power-operated tan cloth retractable top that can be concealed under the vinyl top boot. The body features a body-colored Endura front bumper, hood intake vents, concealed windshield wipers, rocker panel moldings, and a quad-outlet exhaust system.

Rally II 14-inch wheels are wrapped in Firestone Wide Oval raised-white-letter tires.

The interior is fitted with reupholstered tan vinyl fold-forward bucket seats and a matching dash and door panels. Brown carpeting covers the floor. Amenities include a center console, lap belts, air conditioning, and a trunk-mounted spare with associated equipment.

Instrumentation is housed within a wood veneer bezel and includes a 140-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a combination gauge that shows the fuel level and warning lights for various vehicle systems. According to the seller, the odometer shows 63K miles. True mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 400ci V8 is said to run well per the seller. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted Turbo Hydramatic 400 3-speed automatic transmission.

Handling is assisted by a rear anti-roll bar and power steering. Power front disc brakes and rear drums bring the car to a stop.

The sale includes restoration documentation and a tan vinyl convertible boot.
