This 1973 Toyota Land Cruiser 4WD two-door sport-utility vehicle was manufactured in June of its model year and stayed in Arizona since it was new until it was relocated to California in 2010. Powered by a 3.9-liter F-series inline-6 coupled with a 3-speed manual transmission, this FJ40 received a newer clutch, fuel pump, radiator, and water pump during the course of the seller’s 5-year ownership. Equipment includes a dual-range transfer case, a newer AM/FM/CD stereo, a swing-away spare tire, disc brakes, and Goodyear Wrangler tires. Finished in two-tone light blue and white over a black vinyl interior, it is now offered with service records and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The FJ series of Land Cruisers first came to market in 1960 and was offered in two-door and four-door pickup and sport-utility vehicle body styles. This two-door 1973 FJ40 has reportedly lived long-term in the southwestern United States since its initial sale in Arizona and comes finished in blue with a white top. The exterior is outfitted with black headlight bezels, adjustable side mirrors, rear bumperettes, a tow receiver, a top-hinged rear window, and a swing-away steel spare. The seller notes that there are minor dings on the quarter panels on both sides and that there is light rust showing on the floor panels as well as the exterior edges of the roof.
Polished 15-inch wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler raised-white-letter tires. Aftermarket disc brakes help bring the vehicle to a stop.
The interior is furnished with black vinyl front buckets and dual rear inward-facing jump seats. Metal surfaces in the cabin are color-matched to the exterior. The flooring is topped with a rubber mat. A modern AM/FM/CD stereo has been installed and the window cranks were replaced during the seller’s ownership.
Instrumentation consists of a 100-mph speedometer along with gauges for the amps, oil pressure, fuel level, and coolant temperature. The seller notes that the odometer, fuel gauge, and oil pressure gauge are not functional and that an auxiliary under-dash oil pressure gauge was added under prior ownership. The 5-digit mechanical odometer reads approximately 77,000 miles, but true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
Since 2017, the 3.9-liter F-series inline-6 has received regular fluid changes and tune-ups under the seller’s ownership. Recent maintenance includes the replacement of the water pump, fuel pump, radiator, and clutch. Power is fed to all four wheels via a floor-shifted 3-speed manual transmission, manually-locking front hubs, and a dual-range transfer case.
Additional photos showing the condition of the undercarriage are available in the gallery.
The sale includes service records.
