This 1955 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria is a first-year, top-trim two-door that was treated to a repaint and a refurbished interior as part of a prior restoration. Under the hood, the upgraded 292ci Y-block V8 features Thunderbird-style valve covers and is coupled with a 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission. Other features include a 12-volt negative ground electrical system, electric wipers, Continental kit, and a modern stereo. Refinished in two-tone red and white over a matching vinyl interior, this first-year Crown Victoria is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear title.
The full-size Fairlane debuted as a top-line model in 1955 in the Ford lineup with the Crown Victoria slotted as the premium trim level with aesthetics including a B-pillar roofline accent and stainless steel roof trim. This Fairlane Crown Victoria from that initial model year displays a straight body that was repainted in the reportedly original two-tone color scheme of red and white. As part of the restoration, there was some rust repair done on the body, but the frame, floors, and rocker areas were noted as being solid. The body features brightwork accents, an electric-converted windshield wiper system, a swing-away continental kit, and a dual exhaust system.
Steel 15-inch wheels with full bright covers are wrapped in wide-whitewall tires. The chassis received updates during the restoration process that include a replacement master cylinder, front springs, control arm bushings, and other components.
The two-bench interior has been reupholstered with two-tone red and white vinyl seating, matched to the door panels and two-tone metal dash. Red carpeting covers the floor. Amenities include stainless steel door sill plates, a dash trim bezel, and a modern AM/FM/CD stereo system mounted under the dashboard. The trunk is lined with a vinyl mat and contains a thin-whitewall spare tire.
Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and coolant temperature and fuel gauges. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 20K miles, but true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The upgraded four-barrel 292ci Y-block V8 was sourced from a 1957 vehicle and is topped by a Holley 4160 carburetor as well as Thunderbird-style valve covers. The electrical system has been retrofitted to run 12 volts. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a column-shifted Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission.
Additional photos showing the condition of the underside are available in the gallery to the right.

@TBirdHunter – Regarding the brakes, it is noted that the master cylinder was replaced. Should we assume this Crown Vic retains its factory drum brakes (non-power) on the front and rear? (i.e. have not been upgraded with after-market power disc and/or power brakes) I am notobserving a power steering pump on this Crown Vic - please confirm that this is manual steering. Thanks again. ...
Yes they are the factory drum brakes. Note in addition to the master cylinder we also replaced all the wheel cylinders and brake shoes (due to fluid contamination). Everything is properly set up which to me is the key to drum brakes; I think so many complaints about them are simply due to poor adjustment. And yes the steering is manual, but I must say this steering box has a very generous ratio. So your arms are pretty busy but the effort is surprisingly low.
@DiversionMotors – One day to go on this attractive Crown Victoria! This was Ford's best in 1955 and remains a wonderful car today. Aside from all the other niceties, this one has a functional speedometer, fuel gauge, headlights, dash lights, turn signals, wipers, horn, heater, parking brake, radio, and more; so often these things are broken or missing on old cars. This one is also in great mechanical condition with lots of recent work as mentioned in the ad and comments section. It will take some solid bidding yet but let's see if it has a new owner tomorrow. ...

Here is an updated picture showing the driver door fitment
@TBirdHunter – Several questions here: 1) Has the tranny been serviced or rebuilt? Please comment on apparent condition when running (smooth shifting??) 2) The full length view of the driver's side appears to show the rear edge of the door not flush with the body. This could be that the door was opened and is ajar; please confirm that the door is flush with the body when fully closed. 3) Do you have a video showing the engine running and/or car moving? - I suspect this is not a problem, but good to check! 4) Can you coordinate shipping to Maryland? Thanks! ...
Hello and thank you for the questions. Using your same numbers: 1) I do not have any documentation for transmission work, but I can tell you from driving that it operates smoothly through all gears and does not make any funny noises. The fluid looks and smells good as well. 2) The door latch has been adjusted since those pictures, pulling the door in a bit more. I will add some pictures to the listing that show the present fitment. There is some degree of de-arching at the lower rear of the doors which is typical for this era, but I think you'll see that the adjustment really helped. 3) I have taken some video of the car running indoors and will work with Auto Hunter to post a link. 4) I would be happy to coordinate shipping, in fact we do this for most of our customers. Also this Crown Victoria has seen a lot of recent work including a carb rebuild, valve adjustment, new master cylinder, brake light switch, coil springs, upper and lower control arm bushings , wheel cylinders, brake shoes, sway bar bushings, blower motor, heat / defrost control cables , horn, radio, wipers, turn signals, and more. The next owner should be able to drive and enjoy.
