This garage-kept 1965 Ford Mustang GT two-door convertible is powered by a 289ci V8 paired with an upgraded 5-speed manual transmission. It features a full center console, woodgrain interior trim, aftermarket power steering, and a dual exhaust system. Refinished in Rangoon Red with a newer power-retractable white top over a white vinyl interior, this first-year Mustang is now offered with a handwritten maintenance log and a clear Texas title in the seller’s name.
Launching the pony car segment in 1965, the original Mustang incorporated select components from the Ford Falcon and Fairlane models. This Mustang from the initial full model year was previously repainted in its original Rangoon Red (J) and equipped with a newer power-operated white retractable top. Over the past six years, it has been garage-kept by its current owner. Features include fog lamps, brightwork, rocker panel striping, and dual exhausts.
Chrome 14-inch steel wheels are mounted inside of whitewall tires. Power steering has been added. Stopping power comes from drum brakes at all four corners.
The interior is furnished with reupholstered white vinyl fold-forward bucket front seats matched to the door panels and rear bench seat. Black carpeting covers the floor. Amenities include a center console, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a radio, a pair of aftermarket cup holders, and woodgrain dash and center console trim. According to the seller, the electronic ignition has been modified.
Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer along with gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, amps, and coolant temperature. An aftermarket Sunpro 8K-rpm tachometer is mounted to the steering column. The five-digit mechanical odometer reportedly reads 7K miles, but true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The 289ci V8 and other drivetrain components were subject to an inspection in October 2021. According to the seller, the car does not leak. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a console-shifted upgraded 5-speed manual transmission.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
The sale includes a handwritten maintenance log.
