This zero-rust 1962 Ford Thunderbird is powered by an overhauled Ford 390ci FE V8 built on a newer block and backed by a rebuilt 3-speed automatic transmission. Features include power steering, power brakes, power windows, and new suspension hardware. Refinished in dark blue with a white roof over a blue vinyl interior, this third-generation Thunderbird is available now and comes with engine and transmission rebuild receipts, uninstalled spare parts, an owner's manual, and a clear title in the seller’s name.
Originally finished in Diamond Blue (N), the exterior was repainted dark blue with a white top under current ownership. Chrome and stainless trim, emblems, and handles are in place. A chrome front bumper with bumper guards is mounted below the grille and quad headlamps. The chrome rear bumper incorporates the fuel door, round taillights, and reverse lights.
Steel wheels with full hub caps are wrapped in narrow-whitewall radial tires. According to the seller, the tires look great, but are from 2014 and should be replaced.
The front bucket seats and full-width rear seat were fitted with new foam inserts and recovered in blue vinyl in 2014. The door panels and quarter panel trim are covered in dark blue vinyl. A light blue ribbed aluminum panel runs from the dashboard across the length of the doors and into the quarter panels. Seat belts are mounted at all seating positions. The dashboard is finished in blue with a light blue ribbed aluminum accent panel that extends to the doors and down into the center console. An aftermarket digital push-button stereo is mounted in the dash, which has cracks shown in the photo carousel to the right. The driver’s door panel, armrest, and top pad also have some visible wear. The swing-away steering column is topped with a light blue 3-spoke steering wheel with a cracking rim. The climate controls are located in the center of the dashboard above the center console, which houses an ashtray, a cigarette lighter, and a locking compartment. A courtesy light is mounted near the rear window in the white pinhole headliner. A new rearview mirror and arm were installed in 1997. A left window and power regulator were installed in 2001.
A 120-mph speedometer with a 5-place odometer reading 91,698 miles is mounted between the non-operational clock and the fuel level and coolant temperature gauges.
The original Ford 390ci FE engine and 3-speed automatic transmission were rebuilt in 1998. The original block was replaced because it was cracked. Under the hood, the power brake assembly, power steering pump, valve covers, and closed-element air cleaner covering a carburetor that was replaced in 2000 can be seen. The radiator was rebuilt in 1998. New hood hinges were installed the same year. A new water pump, radiator hoses, heater and fuel hoses, thermostat, and power brake booster were installed in 2014. The battery was replaced in 2016.
This Thunderbird features an independent front suspension and a solid-axle rear suspension. According to the seller, a previous owner rebuilt the front suspension and steering components along with the rear suspension at 80,462 miles in 1998. In 1997, the front brakes were repaired, new rear brake shoes were installed, and a drum turning service and rear axle bearing lubrication were performed. A new exhaust was installed in 1996.
Uninstalled parts including taillight lenses, hood scoop trim, heater hoses, Thunderbird-branded floor mats, quarter panel emblems, and more as well as an original owner's manual and service receipts will be included with the sale.
