This 1981 Volkswagen Type 2 Kombi Bus is a cosmetically and mechanically refurbished vehicle that was imported to the United States, receiving power from a rebuilt 1.6-liter flat-4 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. It has been equipped with new brakes, Tornel Classic tires, an AM/FM radio, and more. Finished in two-tone Canary Yellow and White over a green and dark gray cloth interior, this Type 2 Bus is now offered with a clear title in the seller’s name.
The Volkswagen Bus dates back to 1949 when it first went into production as a light commercial vehicle with multiple purposes including passenger transport and cargo delivery. In 1967, a revised variant known as the Type 2 debuted, characterized by a one-piece windshield and larger exterior dimensions. This Bus from 1981 was imported to the United States and received fresh two-tone Canary Yellow and White paint in 2021, complemented by white headlight surrounds and chrome mirror caps and door handles. Features include headlight eyebrows, a VW front emblem, and an access hatch at the rear.
White steel 14-inch wheels with polished center caps are wrapped in Tornel Classic tires with good tread remaining. The seller notes that the brakes have been replaced recently.
The interior is upholstered in a tri-tone color scheme of green cloth bucket seats at the front, black vinyl door panels, a black dashboard, and two rows of dark gray cloth rear seats. An AM/FM radio has been added.
Instrumentation consists of a 150-km/h speedometer and a combination gauge for the fuel level and coolant temperature. The odometer reads 196K kilometers, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The rebuilt air-cooled 1.6-liter flat-4 is rated at 50 horsepower and said to perform well according to the seller. New hardware includes the distributor, carburetor, alternator, and ignition coil. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted 4-speed manual transaxle.
The seller notes that there is light corrosion on the underbody.

@cmsks – Hello, Yes the inner body and frame are solid and in good condition other than light corrosion in some areas. Most of the body had no rust at all. ...
Thank you for the prompt reply. Nice looking VW Bus. Happy 4th of July!
@TLKL2002 – Thank you for noting the “light corrosion underbody” - my question is: is the frame solid as well as inner body; was the body in pretty good, minimal rust shape prior to the re-painting? Thank you. ...
