This 1968 Mercury Park Lane convertible is one of the approximately 1,000 convertible variants produced for the 1968 model year. Features include power steering, power brakes, power windows, air conditioning, an aftermarket digital stereo, and newer whitewall tires. Power is supplied by a 390ci big-block V8 backed by an automatic transmission. Refinished in red with a black convertible top over a tan vinyl interior, this 37K-mile second-generation Park Lane is available now and comes with an uninstalled manual antenna and a clear title in the seller’s name.
Originally white with faux woodgrain side accents, the car was repainted red in 2018. It no longer has those woodgrain panels, but it still retains metallic trim. A chrome remote mirror housing is mounted on the driver’s door. A chrome front bumper can be seen below the horizontal bar grille and quad headlamps. A vinyl black convertible top with a plastic back window covers the passenger compartment. A chrome rear bumper with integrated reverse lights is mounted below the vertical taillights. The dual exhausts exit underneath the bumper. The seller states that the fender-mounted antenna mast was broken off and that an uninstalled replacement antenna will be included with the sale of the car. Additionally, the windshield washer does not work.
The steel wheels have factory wire hubcaps and are wrapped in narrow-whitewall radial tires that were replaced in 2018.
Inside, both rows have a full-width tan vinyl bench seat. The tan vinyl carries onto the door panels with simulated walnut woodgrain accents and dark brown armrests, which house the controls for the power windows and power vent windows. An aftermarket tan center console with two cup holders is installed on the front seat. Dark brown carpet covers the entire cabin floor and is complemented with tan and brown vinyl floormats. A dark brown dashboard with woodgrain trim and a dark brown top pad houses controls for the headlamps, wipers, climate system with air conditioning, and locking glove box. An automatic-shift steering column is topped with a padded woodgrain steering wheel with a half horn ring. An AM/FM push-button radio is mounted in the stock location. An aftermarket digital radio is located under the center of the dashboard.
A gear selection indicator, fuel gauge, 120-mph speedometer, and clock are positioned behind the steering wheel. The 5-place odometer shows 37,624 miles, which the seller believes to be original mileage.
A 390ci big-block V8 that generates a reported 300 horsepower is backed by an automatic transmission. Blue valve covers, a blue closed-element air cleaner, an air conditioning compressor, a power steering pump, and cast iron exhaust manifolds complete the engine. The power brake master cylinder and battery can also be seen under the hood. The seller notes that the transmission linkage needs a minor adjustment. The oil was changed last fall. Additional service work has not been needed during the seller’s ownership.
An uninstalled replacement antenna will be included with the sale.
