This 1982 Mercedes-Benz 500SEL is a European-specification four-door luxury sedan that has been owned by the seller since 1987 and maintained by a Mercedes specialty mechanic for the past 35 years. It draws power from a 5.0-liter M117 V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Finished in metallic silver over a blue cloth interior, this W126 500SEL is now offered with a clean CARFAX report, documentation, service records, and a clear Texas title.
The W126 chassis provided a basis for the second generation of the full-size luxury S-Class lineup beginning in the 1979 model year. This metallic silver 500SEL from 1982 has European-specification bumpers and lighting along with a power-operated sunroof, headlight wipers, bright window surrounds, and twin exhaust outlets below the driver's side of the rear bumper. The seller notes that the windshield gasket is faulty.
Three-piece 15-inch BBS wheels with gold mesh centers and polished lips are wrapped in new Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring tires. The suspension has been overhauled under the seller’s ownership. Anti-lock braking came standard on this model.
The interior is fitted with blue bucket front seats protected by sheepskin seat covers and color-coordinated rear seating, door panels, carpeting, and center console. Amenities include power-adjustable front seats, woodgrain trim, air conditioning, cruise control, tinted and power-operated windows, courtesy lights, and a modern AM/FM/CD player.
VDO instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer, a 7K-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for the coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and instantaneous fuel economy. The 6-digit mechanical odometer currently reads 199K miles, which is in line with the mileage last reported on the CARFAX report.
The M117 5.0-liter V8 has been maintained by a factory-trained specialty technician for the last 35 years and is up to date on service. As a European-spec model, the car's powerplant was factory rated at 237 horsepower and 296 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 4-speed automatic transmission.
Additional photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.
The CARFAX report goes back to 2001 and shows no accidents or damage. The sale includes a folder of service records and other documentation.
