Vehicle Story

This 1980 Toyota BJ40 Land Cruiser 4x4 is finished in maroon over black vinyl interior and is powered by a 3.0L 4-cylinder diesel engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission.  It was owned previously by a family in Costa Rica for 20 years before being legally imported to the United States. Equipment includes a two-speed transfer case, auxiliary light, and a fully reupholstered interior.  Located in Atlanta, Georgia, this Land Cruiser is now offered with a clean Georgia title in the seller’s name.

The vehicle received a full refinish in May 2020 to its original shade of maroon. The exterior features split vertical opening rear doors with white grille trim and hard-top roof. Auxilary off-road lights are mounted to the front bumper while the factory turn indicators are mounted to the fenders. A full-size spare tire is mounted to the rear of the vehicle with black cover.

Factory 15” steel wheels finished in white are mounted to raised-white-letter Maxxis 771 Bravo A/T tires on all four corners. The braking system consists of power-assisted drums all around with a dual reservoir master cylinder.

The interior is fitted with the original seats that have been updated with new black vinyl upholstery.  The door panels and a one-piece headliner were reupholstered at the same time.  There is no carpeting, but aftermarket floor mats are present.  The dash and floor were repainted maroon along at the time the exterior was refinished.  The door locks have been repaired recently, and the vehicle has an aftermarket in-dash radio, however, no speakers are installed.

Instrumentation consists of a centrally-mounted 160-km/h speedometer, along with accompanying gauges for oil pressure, fuel level, coolant temperature, and voltage.  The five-digit odometer was inoperative for an unspecified length of time but the seller estimates overall mileage on the vehicle to be 120k kilometers, though true mileage is unknown.  The seller has owned the vehicle since January 2020 and added 1k kilometers in that time.

The 3.0L, 4-cylinder diesel engine is the original to the truck, with the ignition system being recently professionally refurbished and the vehicle has passed a government inspection.  Power is transferred through a 4-speed manual transmission, coupled to a 2-speed transfer case with locking hubs on the front wheels.

Additional photos of the undercarriage are available in the gallery.

The sale includes documentation regarding the Costa Rican government inspection as well as associated importation paperwork.
