Vehicle Story

This 1979 BMW 320i two-door receives power from a 2.0-liter M10 inline-4 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. With ownership history in California and Florida, this E21 has straight body panels along with features such as upgraded 15-inch wheels, an Alpine sound system, and a sliding sunroof. Finished in Sierra Beige over a Caramel leatherette interior, this first-generation 320i is now offered with service records, a car cover, and a clear Florida title in the seller’s name.

The original 3 Series debuted as a compact executive car in 1975 and was available in two-door coupe and convertible body styles. This 320i two-door from 1979 reportedly wears its original Sierra Beige paint. Exterior elements include BMW's signature twin-kidney grille, quad headlights, fog lamps, black bodyside moldings, chrome window surrounds, and a single-outlet exhaust at the rear. The seller notes that there are some small blemishes that have been touched up.

Upgraded mesh-style 15-inch alloy wheels are set inside of new Continental tires. Braking comes from power-assisted discs up front and drums in the rear. The front and rear end come equipped with independent suspension hardware.

The cabin is trimmed with Caramel leatherette bucket seats matched to the door panels and Berber carpeting. Those contrast with the black dash and center console. Amenities include a Bluetooth-enabled Alpine head unit, Sony speakers, a sliding sunroof, and an analog clock.

Instrumentation comes in the form of a 120-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and accompanying gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 98K miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The clamshell hood opens to reveal the 2.0-liter M10 inline-4 with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. This powerplant was given ratings of 109 horsepower and 112 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 4-speed manual transmission. A driving video is available for viewing below.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

The sale includes service records and a car cover.

@MCas – Nice looking car. Can you please explain what the tubing shown in the trunk is used for? ...

Thank you! Those are to replace the moulding around the rear window and front windshield. It is the only trim on the car that shows any sign of age, I ordered those from BMW some years ago when they were still available. Apologies, forgot to add that to the notes. Thanks!

@DSB – One of the work orders mentions "The car was partially submerged." What happened? ...

Hello DSB: I just noticed this on the old service records myself when I photographed them. Seeing that the incident was reported over 25 years ago, the car has had zero electrical issues and there is absolutely zero evidence of any damage inside or out, over 2 decades later, I wasn't concerned in the least. Sorry, I don't know any more than what is on the work order (which does not report any damage discovered). I can also report that the metal, fabrics, electrical and everything on the car is mint condition and the title was 100% clean when purchased. Thanks!
