This 2018 Mercedes-Benz SL550 Designo two-door convertible has driven 15,600 miles since new and carried an initial MSRP of $128,295, equipped with options including a Magic Sky retractable hardtop, a Driver Assistance package, 19” aluminum AMG-branded wheels, and natural bamboo gloss trim. This roadster was originally sold new in Chatsworth, California where it has resided since, powered by a Biturbo 4.7-liter V8 coupled with a 9G-Tronic Plus 9-speed automatic transmission. Finished in Dolomite Brown Metallic over a Ginger Beige and Espresso Nappa leather interior, this R231 SL550 is now offered by the selling dealer with a CARFAX report, owner’s manuals, and a clear California title.
The SL-Class of Mercedes-Benz models first originated in the mid-1950s as a lineup of two-door coupes and roadsters. For 2013, the SL roadster received a new chassis known as the R231, and a mid-cycle facelift in 2017 later brought revised front and rear fascias, fender vents, LED front and rear lighting with integrated daytime running lamps, and revised taillights. This SL550 from 2018 is constructed with an aluminum body that is coated in Dolomite Brown Metallic (526), accompanied by a color-matched power-operated retractable Magic Sky hardtop with an integrated panoramic sunroof.
AMG-branded aluminum 19” multi-spoke wheels with locking lug nuts are wrapped in Continental ContiSport tires with good tread remaining.
The two-seat Designo interior is dressed in a two-tone color scheme with optional 16-way power-adjustable Ginger Beige and Espresso exclusive Nappa leather seating, complemented by a Dinamica headliner and color-keyed floor mats. The cabin is further dressed in natural bamboo gloss wood trim, and additional amenities include footwell speakers, a $2,250 Driver Assistance package, a $5,400 Bang & Olufsen Beo sound system with LCD monitor, a multi-function sport steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a COMAND integrated navigation system with voice activation, illuminated door sills, and soft-close doors.
Instrumentation is shown by a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The digital odometer reads 15,600 miles, which is a true reading supported by the CARFAX report.
The Biturbo 4.7-liter V8 was rated at 449 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque when new, and power is fed to the rear wheels via a 9G-Tronic Plus 9-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The R231 uses Active Body Control (ABC) active suspension with adaptive damping, and braking power comes from torque vectoring brakes with four-wheel ventilated anti-lock discs.
The CARFAX report describes this SL550 as one-owner car with two accidents on record: the first in June 2021 with damage to the right front, and the second in January 2022 with damage to two areas. The sale includes owner’s manuals and a replica window sticker showing an original MSRP of $128,295 including options.
