This 1965 Ford Mustang is reportedly a GT coupe powered by an A-code 289ci V8 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. It was built in May of its model year and has been driven 2,500 miles since undergoing a full restoration in 2013. Equipment includes fog lights, styled steel wheels, GT livery, and a dual exhaust system. Finished in Rangoon Red over a red vinyl interior, this Mustang is now offered with a car cover, an owner’s manual, and a clear Florida title in the seller’s name.
Building on engineering and components from the existing Falcon model, the first Mustang pony car was launched in 1964. A GT variant was offered with special equipment. Per the seller, this example is a true Mustang GT coupe. A restoration was carried out in 2013 that involved the body being refinished in Rangoon Red. Accents consist of GT-specific elements including the rocker decals, emblems, fog lamps, and a dual exhaust system with polished outlets.
Styled 14-inch steel wheels with red center caps are set inside of BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires. Driving is aided by power steering. Braking comes from front discs and rear drums.
The interior was refurbished at the time of restoration and comes fitted with reupholstered red vinyl low-back bucket seats and matching colors for the center console, door panels, dash, carpeting, and rear bench seat. Amenities include an AM/FM radio, air conditioning, and a vinyl trunk liner.
Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, a Rally Pac tachometer with a clock, and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The 5-digit mechanical odometer reads 2,500 miles, which reflects the mileage accrued after the restoration was completed. True mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The A-code 289ci V8 is fed by a four-barrel carburetor and was rated at 225 horsepower when new. Recent service includes a new aluminum radiator and DieHard battery. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 4-speed manual transmission.
