Vehicle Story

This 1968 Pontiac GTO two-door hardtop comes equipped with upgrades including a Pioneer audio system, a Grant steering wheel, a center console, and polished aluminum wheels on BFGoodrich tires. Power for this muscle car comes from a 400ci V8 coupled with a 3-speed automatic transmission with his/hers shift selections. Finished in Blue Metallic with a blue vinyl top over a blue vinyl interior, this second-generation GTO is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear Florida title.

While offered first as a trim package on the intermediate-sized Pontiac Tempest, the GTO became a standalone model in 1966. A second generation later debuted in 1968 on the General Motors A-body platform with a slightly reduced length and lowered height. This GTO two-door hardtop from 1968 was repainted Blue Metallic with a complementing dark blue vinyl roof. The exterior is said to exhibit good finishes throughout, including the front and rear bumpers and other brightwork. The body exhibits a hood scoop, chrome sideview mirrors, and dual exhausts at the rear.

Polished aluminum wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires. Steering is power-assisted, and braking comes from power-operated discs.

The interior is fitted with blue vinyl bucket seats up front and a bench in the rear, matched to the door panels and lower dash. The padded upper dash and the carpeting are fitted in black, and the cabin is dressed in a woodgrain veneer across the dash face and console. Amenities include a newer Pioneer radio in the glove compartment, a Grant steering wheel, and a center console.

Instrumentation is presented by a 120-mph speedometer, an under-dash aftermarket 8k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and readouts for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 59k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 400ci V8 is capped by a chrome-finished air cleaner and installed in a matte-black engine bay. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 3-speed automatic his/hers transmission.
