Vehicle Story

This 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL grand-touring roadster is powered by a newly-serviced 3.8-liter V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and has resided long-term in the southwest region. This R107SL comes with woodgrain interior trim, reupholstered bucket seating, a custom wood steering wheel, and cold air conditioning. Finished in Gold Metallic over a tan cloth interior with a color-matched detachable hardtop, this R107 380SL is now offered with an owner’s manual, a clean CARFAX report and a clear Arizona title in the seller’s name.

The grand-touring SL-Class first became part of the Mercedes-Benz lineup in the mid-1950s and adopted the R107 chassis beginning in model year 1971. This 380SL two-door roadster from 1985 has a rust-free, straight body that wears its original Gold Metallic paint along with a color matched removable hardtop. The body features fog lamps, chrome wheel arch moldings, bright mirror caps, and a trunk-mounted third brake lamp.

Chrome-finished 14” wheels are wrapped in new tires. The seller notes that the car is missing two center caps.

The two-seat interior is fitted with newly-upholstered tan bucket seats, coordinated to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. The cabin is accented in woodgrain trim, and additional amenities include a custom wood steering wheel, power windows, automatic climate control, cruise control, a carpeted dash mat, and a power antenna. The seller notes that there is a crack in the dash.

Instrumentation is delivered via a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, instantaneous fuel economy, and fuel level. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 109k miles, which is a true reading consistent with the CARFAX report.

The 3.8-liter V8 was rated at 155 horsepower and 196 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain received an oil change and a tune-up in late 2021, along with a replacement battery, air conditioning hose, spark plugs, and fluids. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 4-speed automatic transmission.

This SL rides on an independent suspension and braking is handled by four-wheel discs. Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.

The CARFAX report shows no accidents or damage on record, with the first record listed in October 1995. The vehicle passed an Arizona emissions inspection in October 2021. The sale includes an owner’s manual.
