This 1972 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia two-door is an unmodified German sports coupe powered by a 1.6-liter flat-4 coupled with a 4-speed manual transaxle. This Karmann Ghia benefits from a nearly complete restoration of exterior and interior finishes, featuring a straight body with a newer coat of paint, reupholstered seating, corrosion-free brightwork, and dual exhausts. Finished in Sparkle Burgundy Brown over a black vinyl interior, this Karmann Ghia is now offered with a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The Karmann Ghia was a 2+2 coupe that leveraged chassis components from the Type 1 Beetle combined with bodywork from German coachbuilder Karmann. Production for this model first started in 1955 and a convertible version debuted two years later. Design changes applied in 1970 included larger taillights and wrap-around turn signals. This Karmann Ghia from 1972 was repainted in Sparkle Burgundy Brown and delivers glossy, straight, and corrosion free body panels throughout the perimeter. Features include Karmann insignias on the front fenders and accenting chrome brightwork for the bumpers, door handles, side moldings, and dual polished exhaust outlets out back.
Silver-finished 15” steel wheels with chrome hubcaps are wrapped in Goodyear tires with good tread remaining.
The interior is fitted with reupholstered black vinyl bucket seats with the same material carried through to matching door panels, a padded upper dash, and charcoal carpeting. The cabin features a radio and rubber floor mats.
Instrumentation is presented by a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a fuel gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 74k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The rear-mounted and carbureted 1.6-liter flat-4 is said to run well per the seller, and power is fed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted 4-speed manual transaxle.
Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.
Dealer fees will be due if the vehicle is purchased in California.
