This 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Spyder two-door convertible exhibits restored interior and exterior finishes along with a mechanically-sorted drivetrain, deriving power from a rear-mounted turbocharged 145ci flat-6 paired with a 4-speed manual transaxle. This Corvair comes dressed in bright accents and comes with Spyder-specific badging, reupholstered bucket seats, and a chrome-finished exhaust outlet. Finished in blue with a white retractable top over a black vinyl interior, this first-generation Corvair is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear Oregon title.
The compact Corvair model first launched in 1960 on the General Motors Z-body platform and later went on to be offered in a variety of body styles including sedans, coupes, station wagons, commercial vans, and pickups. This Corvair Monza two-door convertible from 1963 was refinished in blue as part of a prior restoration and is accented by a white retractable cloth top, quad headlamps, bright front and rear bumpers, and chrome rocker moldings. The selling dealer describes finishes and fitment as good throughout, with solid glass, a tear-free top, and nice paint quality.
Steel 15” wheels with polished hubcaps are mounted to whitewall tires with good tread remaining.
The interior is comprised of black vinyl fold-forward bucket seats, tied in with the door panels, headliner, dash, and carpeting. A tan rubber mat protects the carpeting, and an aluminum faceplate with Spyder badging is affixed to the passenger side of the dash.
Instrumentation is displayed within a silver bezel and includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary readouts for fuel level, coolant temperature, and more. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 64k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The rear-mounted, turbocharged 145ci flat-6 carried a factory rating of 150 horsepower when new. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted 4-speed manual transmission. The Corvair utilizes a “Quadri-Flex” independent suspension.
