Vehicle Story

This 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500 convertible has driven 62,177 miles since new and was owned by the same family for 21 years, powered by a 5.0-liter M113 V8 paired with a 5-speed automatic transmission. This SL500 was first sold in Delray Beach, Florida and has remained in the same region since new, showcasing rust-free, straight body panels, an accident-free history, and well-preserved trim. Finished in red with a black cloth retractable top over a tan leather interior, this R129 SL500 is now offered with a hardtop, a clean CARFAX report, and a clear Florida title in the seller’s name.

The R129 SL roadster went into production in 1989 replacing the R107, using a shortened floorplan of the W124 chassis and offered only as a grand-touring two-door. Several years later, a facelift was applied for 1996 with updates to the fender vents, bumper aesthetics, running gear, and safety equipment. This SL500 from 1999 wears a garage-kept red exterior finish and features a power-operated hydraulic black cloth retractable top. Body treatment includes headlight wipers, fog lamps, fender air vents, color-matched sideview mirrors, and an integrated LED third brake lamp. A hardtop with rolling stand will come with the vehicle.

Silver-finished 17” five-spoke wheels are mounted to tires which show good tread life remaining. Handling is assisted by power steering, and braking comes by way of four-wheel anti-lock discs.

The interior is fitted with tan leather bucket seats, matched to the door panels, dash, center console, and carpeting. The cabin is further trimmed in gloss woodgrain, and additional amenities include air conditioning, a leather shift knob, cruise control, memory seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a wind screen, and a modern Pioneer AM/FM/CD audio system.

Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil temperature, and fuel economy. The digital odometer reads 62,177 miles, which is a true reading consistent with the CARFAX report.

The 5.0-liter M113 V8 was given factory ratings if 302 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque when new and has been well-maintained, as evidenced by consistent dealer servicing on the CARFAX report. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 5-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.

The CARFAX report illustrates and accident-free and damage-free history.

AUTOHUNTER ADMIN UPDATE 4/6/22 8:04 AM: Per the selling dealer, a hardtop and rolling stand will go with the vehicle.

Interior drivers side carpeting looks frayed/stained. Is that an accurate observation?

I live in Texas where it gets really hot. How good I does the AC cool on a 95 degree day? Do you know if the top is insulated? Has all the factory recommended service been performed? Thanks, Ro
