Vehicle Story

This cosmetically restored 1949 Packard Station Sedan is powered by a factory rated 130-hp 288ci inline 8 cylinder backed by a 3-speed manual transmission. Features include Northern Maple Wood exterior trim, manual steering and brakes, rear wheel skirts, and reverse lights. This Sylvan Green 1949 Packard Station Sedan with tan interior is available now and comes with a clear Illinois title in the seller’s name.

The Station Sedan was built between 1948 and 1950 on the Packard Eight platform. Construction is unlike other traditional wooden bodied cars of the day being built in steel with exterior wood trim as opposed to having full wooden doors.  An exception to this is the tailgate, constructed with full wooden framing.  This Packard was refinished in Sylvan Green, with Northern Maple Wood exterior trim during the 20-year-old cosmetic restoration.. Features include horizontal bar grill, Cormorant hood ornament, body color rear wheel skirts, chrome front and rear bumpers, and reverse lights. According to the seller, there are two non-original brackets on the tailgate that were present when the car was purchased.

Refinished in green, the original Packard steel wheels are wearing chrome center caps and trim rings wrapped in Silvertown white wall tires.

The front bench seat with a matching rear seat is upholstered with tan vinyl and cloth inserts, while the tan vinyl carries on to the door panels. Features include fold-down rear seat with wood backing, rear cargo area and tailgate, manual windows, and faux wood-grained steel dashboard. According to the seller, the original faux wood-grained dashboard is showing age spots. Additional photos can be seen in the carousel to the right.

A 110-mph speedometer with a 5-place odometer reading 55108 and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage and fuel level, along with a factory clock are mounted in an original chrome bezel on the dashboard to provide vehicle information to the driver. According to the seller, the speedometer and odometer do not work.

The power is provided by a factory rated 130-hp 288ci inline 8 cylinder backed by a 3-speed manual column shifted transmission. The engine was not rebuilt during the cosmetic restoration and the seller states that the engine starts and runs well and burns a minimal amount of oil.

This Packard was originally equipped with an independent front suspension and solid leaf spring mounted rear drive axle and was not restored during the 20-year-old cosmetic restoration.
