Vehicle Story

This custom 1966 Ford Mustang is a C-code coupe powered by a performance-upgraded 289ci V8 that has been stroked to 331ci and fully overhauled within the last 1,000 miles. Equipment includes an Edelbrock carburetor, a PerTronix ignition system, aluminum racing pulleys, a custom dual exhaust system, and Comp Cams Magnum roller rockers. Power is transferred to the rear through a rebuilt C4 3-speed automatic transmission and a set of Primewell tires on 17-inch American Racing aluminum wheels. Finished in metallic light blue over a blue vinyl interior, this first-generation Mustang is now offered with a parts list with model numbers, receipts, and a clear Arizona title in the seller’s name.

The original Mustang pony car debuted for the 1965 model year and utilized engineering elements and design from existing Ford models into a new model offered in coupe and convertible body styles. This Mustang coupe from 1966 has a rust-free body that was repainted metallic light blue with white striping on the rocker panels. The quality of the finished work is said to be in driver-grade condition per the seller and is accented by brightwork and dual outlets for a custom glass pack exhaust system. The seller notes that the window wiper motor is not working.

American Racing 17-inch Daytona model VN801 wheels with polished lips are wrapped in Primewell PZ-900 staggered tires, which measure 225/45 at the front and 245/45 at the rear. The suspension uses a Mustang II set up with a weld-in crossmember, sway bar, urethane bushings, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, and disc brakes with GM calipers, pads, and shocks. The upper and lower control arms are tubular and the rear suspension uses leaf springs with lowering blocks. The power braking system features a chrome dual-reservoir master cylinder with a solid-state disc/drum proportioning valve.

The interior has been insulated with Dynamat and fitted with reupholstered blue vinyl low-back bucket seats, racing seat belts, vinyl door panels, and newer plush carpeting. Additional features include an Ididit powder-coated tilt steering column and a rally-style steering wheel. The seller notes that the door lock rods are not hooked up.

Instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 12K miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The reportedly numbers-matching original 289ci V8 has undergone an extensive overhaul within the last 1,000 miles under the direction of King Balancing Service in Glendale, Arizona and was professionally balanced. The original block was magnafluxed and bored .030 over. The rotating assembly was replaced with a SCAT Crankshafts Series 9000 cast lightweight stroker crankshaft, I-beam rods, and hypereutectic flat-top pistons for a total final displacement of 331ci. The drivetrain is said to be leak-free. Performance enhancements are listed as follows:

  • Replacement intake and exhaust valves and valve guides
  • 3/8-inch screw-in studs
  • Five-angle valve job
  • Edelbrock model 1406 600-cfm carburetor
  • Edelbrock Performer model 2121 intake manifold
  • Edelbrock 2122 camshaft with hydraulic lifters
  • Edelbrock Performer RPM (110 gph) model 1725 fuel pump and new fuel sending unit
  • Edelbrock water pump
  • PerTronix Flame-Thrower ignition and coil with 8-mm spark plug wires
  • Melling oil pump
  • Comp Cams Magnum roller rockers
  • New pushrods
  • Felpro gasket set with a neoprene oil pan gasket
  • Edelbrock timing chain and gears
  • ARP stainless steel grade 8 bolt kit
  • Ford Racing aluminum valve covers
  • 100-amp one-wire chrome alternator with an internal voltage regulator
  • Edelbrock model 4250 aluminum timing cover
  • Engine painted in Eastwood “Old Ford Blue” ceramic high-temperature coating
  • GM Saginaw-style power steering pump
  • Braided steel engine oil dipstick
  • CVF Racing aluminum racing pulley set
  • OEM-style high-performance exhaust manifolds with new 2.5-inch piping from front to back
  • Engineered Cooling Products single-core aluminum radiator with a 3300-cfm 17-inch electric fan

Power is directed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted rebuilt C4 3-speed automatic transmission with a shift kit and original 3.25 rear gearing. The seller has posted a video of the engine running below.

The sale includes a parts list with model numbers and receipts.

I see we are getting close; if there are any last minute questions or concerns, I am free to answer them. This is a ridiculously fun car that was built for myself with top quality parts. This is not a flip done with cheap upgrades. This car runs and drives like a dream; There are none nicer than this for under 30k and we are getting close to a very reasonable reserve. Happy bidding!

Headliner is very nice actually. I will get a picture of it when I get home. Let me know if there is anything else you want a closer look at or have questions about. Yes, it does have power assisted brakes and it stops great. (a lot better than the old drums)
