This 1970 Pontiac LeMans Sport convertible received a frame-on restoration beginning in 2006 and pays tribute to the GT-37 option offered on V8-powered LeMans coupes and hardtops. It features chrome bumpers, GT-37 fender and trunk lid badges, bright rocker panel trim with 400 emblems, Rally II wheels, LeMans Sport insignias on the quarter panels, and quad exhaust outlets that exit through the rear valance panel. A power convertible top covers the passenger compartment, which features power steering and brakes, Dakota Digital gauges, Vintage Air HVAC controls, a newer radio, and newer upholstery, carpeting, and door panels. Under the hood is a 400ci V8 equipped with FiTech fuel injection and connected to a 3-speed automatic transmission. Recent maintenance includes the replacement of various seals, pumps, and fluids at a seller-reported cost of $1,600. Refinished in red with a white top over a red vinyl interior, this LeMans is available now and comes with restoration photos and receipts and a clear Texas title in the seller's name.
In 1970, Pontiac began offering V8 Tempest coupes and hardtop coupes with the Tempest GT-37 Sport Package, which included hood pins, body stripes, special Rally II wheels, fender and decklid badging, a performance dual exhaust system with tips that exited through the lower rear valance, and more. This 1970 LeMans Sport convertible was put through a frame-on restoration 14 years ago. The exterior has been repainted red and equipped with a power-operated white convertible top. Accents include chrome bumpers, GT-37 fender and trunk lid badges, bright rocker panel trim with 400 emblems, and LeMans Sport insignias on the quarter panels. The seller reports the chrome is in excellent shape. Two pairs of round exhaust finishers exit through the rear valance panel.
Like GT-37 coupes, this convertible rolls on a set of Rally II wheels, which come wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires. According to the seller, their tread is in great condition.
The cabin has newer red vinyl upholstery and matching door panels and carpeting. It comes equipped with front bucket seats, a center console, and a bench rear seat. Features include power steering and brakes, manual windows, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a column-mounted automatic shifter, Vintage Air HVAC controls, and a newer radio. The trunk contains a floor liner and a spare with a cover.
A woodgrain trim panel on the dashboard surrounds a set of Dakota Digital gauges, including a 160-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and readouts for the oil pressure, voltage, coolant temperature, and fuel level. According to the seller, there are 75,190 miles on the digital odometer.
The hood covers a 400ci V8 with FiTech fuel injection. Power is delivered to the road through a 3-speed automatic transmission and the rear wheels. According to the seller, a local mechanic went through the car to prepare it for sale and replaced various seals, pumps, and fluids for $1,600.
Additional pictures of the restored undercarriage are in the gallery to the right.
Restoration photos and receipts will be included with the sale.
