This garage-kept 1978 Mercedes-Benz 450SL roadster has been driven 50,447 miles since new and comes with a color-matched hardtop as well as a retractable soft top. Its 4.5-liter M117 V8 is paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. This SL has been owned and regularly driven by the seller for 20 years in Arizona and features woodgrain trim, power convenience options, and automatic climate control. Finished in blue over a tan MB-Tex interior, this R107 450SL is now offered with a first aid kit and a clear Arizona title in the seller’s name.
The R107 SL made its debut in the form of a two-door, two-seat roadster in the 1971 model year. The bumpers were lengthened in 1974 to comply with United States safety regulations and the 450SL stayed in production through 1980. This garage-kept blue 1978 450SL comes with a color-matched removable hardtop as well as the factory soft top. Features include quad sealed-beam headlamps, fog lamps, chrome mirror caps, ribbed taillights, and bumper guards. The seller notes that there are some minor chips on the edge of the fuel door.
Steel 14-inch Bundt wheels are surrounded by radial tires. Driving dynamics are assisted by power steering and power disc brakes all the way around.
The two-seat interior is fitted with tan MB-Tex bucket seats that are color-matched to the door panels, center console, dash, carpeting, and floor mats. The dash and console are accented with woodgrain. Additional features include power windows, automatic climate control, and a radio. There are some cracks on the upper portion of the dash as shown in the photo carousel.
Instrumentation from VDO includes a 160-mph speedometer, 7K-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The 6-digit mechanical odometer reads 50,447 miles, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The 4.5-liter M117 V8 is equipped with Bosch fuel-injected and was given factory ratings of 180 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 3-speed automatic transmission.
Additional photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.
The sale includes a first aid kit.

@madisonmurdock – I’m looking for answers on the 14 digit VIN, it seems some only have 14 numbers. ...
