This 1957 Ford Thunderbird convertible restored under previous ownership is equipped with a factory soft top, a complementing hardtop, and whitewall tires with power provided by a 312ci Y-block V8 paired with a rebuilt 2-speed Fordomatic automatic transmission. Finished in Dusk Rose with a Colonial White removable hardtop over a White vinyl interior, this first-generation Thunderbird is now offered with an original bill of sale, a brochure, and a clear New Jersey title in the seller’s name.
First coming to market in the mid-1950s, the Thunderbird pioneered the personal luxury car segment and was offered as a two-seat convertible. In 1956, the spare tire was relocated to outside the trunk, and changes were made to the exhaust routing and the bumper configuration. The following year, the spare tire moved back inside the trunk and the exterior received revised bumpers, grille, and taillights. This Thunderbird from 1957 is painted Dusk Rose (XE) and has an accenting Colonial White (E) removable hardtop with portholes, fender skirts, and surrounding brightwork.
Steel 14-inch wheels with bright Ford-branded hubcaps are surrounded by whitewall tires. Stopping power comes from drum brakes at all four corners.
The two-seat interior is fitted with a reupholstered pleated Colonial White (XK) vinyl bench seat, matched to the door panels, dash, and steering wheel. The floor is covered with black carpeting. The face of the dashboard is accented with an engine-turned aluminum bezel. Features include a radio, a heater, and floor mats.
Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, a 5K-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 13K miles, which the seller believes to reflect 113K actual miles since it has turned over. The seller notes that the analog clock does not work.
The 312ci Y-block V8 is connected to a rebuilt Fordomatic 2-speed automatic transmission.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
The sale includes an original bill of sale and a brochure.
