Vehicle Story

This 1-of-4,118 1968 Ford Mustang California Special coupe is powered by a Ford 289ci V8 engine backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. Features include power steering, a heavy-duty suspension, bucket front seats, and manual brakes. This Gulf Stream Aqua Mustang with a black vinyl interior is available now with a Marti Report, records from the previous owner, an owner’s manual, and a clear title from the selling dealer.

West Coast Ford dealers offered a Shelby-inspired California Special, available only as a coupe, in 1968. The GT/CS package consisted of a Shelby tail panel, sequential taillights, a fiberglass trunk lid with an integrated spoiler, quarter panel side scoops, front driving lights, twist hood locks, California Special quarter panel emblems, and GT/CS side striping. This 1968 Mustang is one of 4,118 California Special Coupes made and has been refinished in correct Gulf Stream Aqua (Code F), as verified by the Marti Report, with white GT/CS side striping. Features include wheel arch trim, chrome front and rear bumpers, hood-mounted turn signals, a windshield washer, reverse lights, and a chrome driver-side mirror housing.

A set of 14" x 7” styled steel wheels with stainless steel trim rings and aluminum center caps are wrapped in P205/70R14 BFGoodrich Radial TA raised-white-letter tires.

The front bucket seats, the matching rear seat, and door panels are upholstered with black vinyl. Features include black interior trim, black carpeting with running horse-logo rubber floor mats, a floor-mounted 4-speed shifter with a wood knob, an AM radio, seat belts, a day/night rearview mirror, manual windows, and a padded Deluxe 2-spoke steering wheel with a half horn ring.

A 120-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, voltage, and oil pressure are mounted in front of the driver. The 5-digit odometer shows 36K miles.

The power is provided by a Ford 289ci V8 engine currently backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. The original transmission was a 3-speed manual as verified by the Marti Report. Features include aftermarket chrome Ford Motorsport valve covers, an open-element oil breather, an open-element chrome Ford Motorsport air cleaner, power steering, and cast-iron exhaust manifolds.

This California Special Mustang was originally equipped with a heavy-duty suspension and quad exhaust tips. Features include an independent coil-spring front suspension, leaf springs, and a solid rear axle. According to the selling dealer, the aluminized dual exhaust system has been recently updated.

The selling dealer will include a Marti Report, the previous owner’s records, and an owner’s manual. They charge a documentation fee of $200, a sales tax of 6.25 percent, and a state inventory tax of 0.2217 percent for Texas residents only.
