This 1955 Ford Thunderbird is finished in Torch Red over a two-tone red and white vinyl interior and is powered by its original 292ci V8 engine paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes removable hardtop, fold-down soft top, power seat, and wide whitewall tires with full-size spare. With 3 documented owners from new, the car was stored for 30 years by the second owner and has recently undergone a light mechanical refresh to make it roadworthiness. Located in Orlando, Florida, this 1955 Thunderbird is now offered with a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
The car is finished in its factory shade of Torch Red with matching red removable hardtop and black soft top. Features include side skirts, a rear bumper with integrated exhaust tips, a simulated hood scoop with chrome trim, and chrome simulated fender vents. All trim and chrome components are in good condition, with no signs of rust or pitting while all of the glass is free of cracks and chips.
The car retains its original 15" steel wheels, painted to match the body of the car and equipped with polished hubcaps featuring the Thunderbird crest in the center, along with a full-size spare in the trunk. The bias-ply Firestone wide whitewall tires were already on the car when it was removed from storage, believed to have been installed prior to it being parked. The braking system consists of manual drums all around, with the recent replacement of the master cylinder and wheel cylinders, in addition to a fluid flush.
The interior features a factory two-tone red and white bench seat with matching two-tone door panels, red carpet, and red dash pad. The black soft convertible top folds down into the boot and hidden by a red tonneau cover, while the removable hardtop features a white perforated headliner with no rips or snags. Additional factory features include manual crank windows, a power seat, Motorola AM radio, and heater with defrost function.
Instrumentation includes a 150-mph speedometer, a 5k-rpm tachometer, and supplementary gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. There are also warning lamps for oil pressure and voltage, while an analog clock resides in the dash near the instrument cluster. The seller has records from when the 2nd owner acquired the car in 1986 showing 74,000 actual miles on the five-digit odometer, where they proceeded to drive it less than 1,400 miles before storing it. Currently, the odometer reads just over 75,400 miles,100 of which have been added by the seller over six months of ownership.
The 292ci V8 is original to the car and retains many of its original components such as chrome air cleaner cover, finned valve covers, generator, and washer fluid bag. Power is transferred to the rear wheels through the original 3-speed manual transmission with a floor-mounted shifter. Recent service work to bring the car to running condition after long term storage included a new fuel tank and fuel lines and a tune-up.
Included in the sale are records for all recent service work performed when the car was removed from storage, a manual for the original Motorola radio, as well as documentation showing it to be an original mileage car.
