Vehicle Story

This 1970 Porsche 356 Speedster replica was professionally assembled by JPS Motorsports of San Marcos, California in early 2021 and delivered to its owner in May of 2021. Power for this Volkswagen-based build comes from a new 2,332cc Type I flat-4 crate engine paired with a 4-speed Pro-Street manual transmission. Features include staggered-width 18-inch aluminum wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and Carrera side mirror caps. Finished in Hakone Green Metallic over a Whiskey Tan leather interior, this 356 replica is now offered with a canvas tonneau and boot, build documentation, receipts, and Maine registration in the seller’s name.

This 356 Speedster replica is a JPS Motorsports reproduction that was assembled in early 2021 on a reconditioned 1970 Volkswagen chassis with a California title. Based in San Marcos, California, JPS Motorsports first launched a modern replica of the Porsche Speedster racecar in the early 1990s and has designed and built more than 400 examples since then. This 356 Speedster replica has a steel-reinforced flared fiberglass body that was painted Hakone Green Metallic. Features include halogen headlights, slim color-matched Carrera mirror caps, a canvas tonneau, and a boot.

Aluminum staggered-width 18-inch wheels are fitted with 265/35-series tires at the front and 265/40-series tires at the rear. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with cross-drilled and slotted rotors. Handling is assisted by a JPS Motorsports sport-tuned suspension.

The two-seat interior is fitted with Whiskey Tan leather bucket seats and matching door panels and upper dash pad along with tan carpeting with red piping and a body-color metal lower dash panel. Amenities include three-point retractable seat belts, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, heater, defroster, and Kenwood stereo with a remote control and new ear buds.

Instrumentation includes a 930-style white gauge package with a 120-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The odometer reads 410 miles, which reflects mileage driven since the completion of the build.

The new rear-mounted Volkswagen 2,332cc Type I flat-4 engine was crate-sourced and is rated at 174 horsepower. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted Pro-Street 4-speed manual racing transmission.

The sale includes build documentation, receipts, the tonneau cover, and a convertible boot. The vehicle is registered as an antique in Maine, which does not require a title, although the seller holds a California title for the 1970 Volkswagen frame. The seller has provided two videos with additional details.
