Vehicle Story

This 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is described as a 61,120-mile unmodified F-body muscle car that was factory-outfitted with the WS6 package for power brakes and an upgraded suspension. This second-generation Firebird comes with removable glass T-top panels and is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Originally manufactured in May of its model year, the car reportedly remained garage-kept with its original owner until 2018. Finished in Burgundy over a tan vinyl interior, this final-year second-generation Firebird is now offered by the selling dealer with the car’s original wheels, documentation, a window sticker, and a clear Ohio title.

The F-body Firebird debuted in its second generation as a two-door coupe beginning in 1970 and the lineup was later broadened by special editions and option packaging in the decade the followed. The final year for the generation was 1981 when the design received a restyled hood decal and revisions to standard equipment. This Firebird from that model year reportedly wears its original Burgundy paint over a rust-free body and features factory-optioned removable glass T-tops. Equipment includes a shaker-style hood, gold decals, vented front fenders, louvered full-width taillights, and a urethane trunk spoiler. The selling dealer notes that the exterior shows some imperfections consistent with age.

Newer polished aluminum 17” snowflake-style wheels with gold pockets are mounted to new Z-rated 275/40-sized Nitto tires. Braking is provided by cross-drilled rotors on four-wheel discs, and steering is power-assisted. The factory-installed WS6 option package adds upgraded suspension components.

The interior offers the original tan vinyl upholstery over the high-back bucket seats, matched to the door panels and carpeting, while contrasted by a black dash and center console. Amenities include a push-button radio, rubber floor mats, and a carpeted trunk with a space-saver spare tire.

Instrumentation is presented within an engine-turned bezel and includes an 85-mph speedometer, a 5k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 61,120 miles, which the selling dealer states is a true reading although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 5.0-liter V8 sends power to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 3-speed automatic transmission.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

The sale includes the car’s original wheels, documentation, and a window sticker. A $150 dealer fee will be added to the purchase price.
