Vehicle Story

This 1939 Mercury two-door convertible is a custom-built hot rod with bodywork that has been shaved, de-chromed, and dressed in airbrushed flames. Under the louvered hood is a 350ci Chevrolet V8 paired with a Turbo 350 3-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a white vinyl Carson removable top with plastic windows, whitewall tires, dual spotlights, and a dual exhaust system with glasspack mufflers. Finished in red with custom flames over a two-tone red and white vinyl interior, this hot rod is now offered with a clear Florida title.

This 1939 Mercury hot rod is an older restoration that was refinished in red with accenting hand-painted flames on the front clip. The cabin is topped by a white vinyl Carson top with plastic zip-style windows. As part of the restoration, the exterior was shaved, chopped, louvered, and de-chromed. Features include a Desoto front bumper, dual spotlights, a split windshield, fender skirts, and a polished-outlet dual exhaust system with glasspack mufflers and flame throwers. The seller notes that there are body blemishes consistent with an older restoration.

Red-finished steel wheels with chrome Hollywood flipper hubcaps are mounted inside of whitewall tires.

The interior is fitted with two-tone pleated vinyl bench seats in red and white, complemented by matching door panels and loop carpeting. Equipment includes a Grant two-tone steering wheel, a modern audio system, chrome dash accents, and a tall shift lever with a lighted skull shift knob.

Instrumentation includes a 110-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 84K miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 350ci Chevrolet V8 is fed by three deuce carburetors and is mechanically sound, according to the seller. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted Turbo 350 3-speed automatic transmission.
