This 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza convertible has been driven 7,600 miles since an award-winning top-to-bottom restoration which included a mechanical overhaul of the 2.7-liter flat-6 paired with a rebuilt 4-speed manual transaxle. Upgrades to the drivetrain include a Holley four-barrel carburetor, a custom intake, an electronic choke, and a rebuilt charging system. The Features include chrome-finished wire wheels, a reupholstered interior, and an air conditioning system from Clark’s Corvair Parts installed in 2019. Refinished in red with a tan retractable top over a black vinyl interior, this second-generation Corvair is now offered with receipts, an owner’s manual, awards, and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The compact Corvair model was brought to market in 1960 as a competitively priced economy car using the General Motors Z-body platform. A second generation was introduced in 1965 in convertible, hardtop, and van body styles with refreshed styling. This Corvair convertible from that year shows a rust-free body that was repainted red in 2017, topped by a replacement tan cloth power-retractable top. The exterior features quad headlights, chrome bumpers, dual side mirrors, rear fender skirts, a luggage rack, and a dual exhaust system.
Chrome-finished wire wheels with knock-off spinner caps are wrapped in whitewall tires. The four-wheel independent suspension, axles, and drum braking system were rebuilt as part of the restoration. The seller notes that the right rear wheel bearing was replaced in 2021.
The interior is trimmed with newer black vinyl upholstery on the seats, matched to the door panels, dash, and replacement carpeting. Amenities include an original-look AM/FM radio and an air conditioning system from Clark’s Corvair Parts that was installed in 2019.
Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The newer five-digit mechanical odometer reads 7K miles, which is reflective of the mileage accrued since the restoration was finished. According to the seller, the original speedometer showed 89K miles.
The rear-mounted, air-cooled 2.7-liter flat-6 was reportedly overhauled using deep-valve-seat heads and a four-barrel Holley carburetor from California Corvairs. Further upgrades include chrome rings, a nitrated crank, an electronic fuel pump, a custom intake manifold, and an electronic choke. Work included a flush and re-seal of the fuel tank, a rebuild of the primary and secondary carburetors, a rebuild of the starter and alternator, and an oil change. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a rebuilt floor-shifted 4-speed manual transaxle.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
The sale includes receipts, car show awards, and an owner’s manual.
