Vehicle Story

This 1975 Mercedes-Benz 450SL roadster comes with a removable color-matched hardtop as well as a cloth soft-top and receives power from a 4.5-liter M117 V8 paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. Recent mechanical work includes replacement of the alternator, shock absorbers, and discs, and the overall condition is unmodified and original. Finished in blue over a black MB-Tex interior, this R107 450SL is now offered with the hardtop, service history and a clear California title in the seller’s name.

The R107-chassis Mercedes-Benz roadster launched as a replacement for the W113 SL-Class beginning in model year 1971. Select changes were applied in the North American market in 1974 including the lengthening of the bumpers to comply with safety regulations for that region. This 450SL from the following year is painted light blue comes with both a factory cloth soft top as well as a color-keyed removable hardtop. The body shows in good condition throughout per the seller, with a new windshield and exterior features including quad headlights and chrome wheel arch moldings. The seller notes that there are small rust spots near the bumpers.

Bundt 14” wheels are mounted to newer tires. Stopping power comes from four-wheel discs, and the brake master cylinder has been replaced recently per the seller. The suspension received newer shock absorbers as well.

The two-seat interior is optioned with black MB-Tex upholstery, matched to the door panels, center console, dash, and carpeting. Features include power windows, power door locks, cruise control, and a radio. The seller notes that the air conditioning does not work, the driver seat upholstery shows some age-based wear, and there is a crack in the dash.

Instrumentation is conveyed through a 160-mph speedometer, a 7K-rpm tachometer, an inset analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 138K miles which is a true reading per the seller.

The 4.5-liter M117 V8 received recent maintenance in the form of replacement fuel lines as well as a new starter switch, alternator, and intermediate drive shaft bearing. The ignition system has been upgraded to an electronic setup, and power is sent to the rear wheels through a console-shifted 3-speed automatic transmission.

Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.

The sale includes a spreadsheet of service history.
