This 1965 Pontiac Tempest two-door convertible has been repainted and comes equipped with power steering, a set of Rallye wheels, a power-retractable top, and aftermarket auxiliary gauges. Power is generated by a refreshed 326ci V8 paired with an automatic transmission. Finished in red with a white vinyl top over a red vinyl interior, this second-generation Tempest is now offered by the selling dealer with a convertible boot, a storage bag, and a clear title.
The Tempest went into production in 1960 as an entry-level compact using the General Motors unibody Y platform. Four years later, a redesign brought larger dimensions on the new A-body platform shared with the Chevrolet Chevelle. This Tempest convertible from 1965 was originally painted Montero Red (R) and has been given a newer paint job accented by a white vinyl power-retractable top. The selling dealer describes the brightwork and paint finishes as being in good condition. The rear end showcases Tempest badging and a full-width taillight garnish above the bumper.
Silver-painted steel Rallye wheels with polished trim rings are set inside of Turbo Action Radial G/T raised-white-letter tires. Steering is power-assisted.
The all-red interior features vinyl fold-forward split-bench front seating, matched to the door panels, dash, carpeting, and rear bench seat. The selling dealer notes that the Kraco radio powers up but does not produce sound.
Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer and a fuel gauge, along with warning lights for the voltage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. An additional aftermarket three-gauge pod is mounted under the dash for voltage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 74K miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The 326ci V8 reportedly underwent a refresh under prior ownership that included new gaskets. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted automatic transmission.
Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.
The sale includes a boot for the convertible as well as a storage bag. The selling dealer has posted a walk around and running video of the vehicle in the carousel to the right.
