1946 Mercury Eight Coupe

This 1946 Mercury two-door coupe is a frame-on restoration that has been in the seller’s family for 45 years. Power is provided by the reportedly original and rebuilt 239ci flathead V8 backed by the original 3-speed manual transmission. Features include manual steering, manual brakes, manual windows, a heater, repaired chrome trim, and a new LeBaron Bonney interior. This rust-free Botsford Blue Green Mercury with a gray cloth and green vinyl interior is available now and comes with a service manual, records, receipts, and a clear title in the seller’s name.

The body was refinished in the original Botsford Blue Green in 2010. Features include chrome bumpers with bumper guards, a color-matched windshield visor, pop-out quarter windows, a chrome grille, a split windshield, and a driver-side mirror. The seller notes that chrome trim was straightened and polished and the paint finish is not show-quality and has a few imperfections.

A set of 16-inch steel wheels with stainless Mercury hub caps and trim rings is wrapped in whitewall bias-ply tires.

The front seat, rear seat, trim, and door panels are upholstered in gray cloth and green vinyl from LeBaron Bonney. Features include black vinyl floor covering, manual windows, manual brakes, manual steering, an under-dash heater, a radio block-off plate, a steel dashboard refinished in metallic light green, and gray rear carpet.

A 110-mph speedometer and clock are mounted in a gold panel in the center of the dashboard. The gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and amperage are mounted in a chrome panel ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 68,804 miles, but the true mileage is unknown.

Power is provided by the reportedly original 239ci flathead V8, which was rebuilt in 2010 and comes connected to the reportedly original 3-speed manual transmission. Underhood features include a 6-volt battery, remote oil filter, oil-bath air filter, single-barrel carburetor, horn, and cast-iron exhaust manifolds.

This Ford Coupe came factory-equipped with a solid I-beam front axle and solid rear drive axle. Stopping power is provided by manual drum brakes. A single exhaust system ends at the rear in the correct location. The underbody, frame, and suspension components are finished in matte black.
